Hairstyles How To: Creating a Foundation for Updos

In addition to creating updos on platform, for shoots and shows, Joi Rooks, KMS California Artistic Team Member and owner of fresche salon (Atlanta, GA), also crates updos for proms, weddings and special occasions behind the chair. Here’s her secret for creating a solid foundation for any updo.

“The key to any successful updo is the foundation – I like to expand texture to transform hair into a wool-type fabric for rolls and cushions,” explains Rooks.

Foundation

· Apply KMS® California HAIRPLAY® sea salt spray and add KMS® California HAIRSTAY® style boost and blow dry with a paddle brush for control and texture.
· Start crimping hair with a texturizing iron from below the recession area, taking one-inch sections. This expands the texture of hair making it more pliable and creating more support due to the increased friction of the texture.

For Above Look
· Add KMS California HAIRSTAY® anti-humidity seal in top area for shine.
· Roll up large barrel sections and pin to join them.
