Platinum hair color perfectly befits the cold-weather season.
Clients looking to embrace the cool front? They can set their sights on one of the most striking of hair color staples: an icy, platinum blonde that evokes the chill of winter in the most fiery way imaginable.
Colorist Julianne Paris Empey (@julianneparis) shares how she created a platinum blonde look for Big Time Rush band member Carlos PenaVega (@therealcarlospena).
“Carlos first transitioned from brunette to blonde last October, and I always recommend regular touch-ups (every four to eight weeks) depending on a client’s regrowth patterns,” Empey shares. “Consistent, dedicated retouch appointments are very important for proper platinum maintenance, and I make sure my clients are aware of the commitment this particular look requires. Julianne Paris Empey created Big Time Rush band member Carlos PenaVega's platinum blonde hair look.
“For Carlos, I applied bleach only to his regrowth and focused on conditioning his processed ends to keep his hair healthy. Mixing Redken Flash Lift and 20 Volume with Uberliss Bond Regenerator, I sectioned his hair into quadrants and started the application in the back. Once done, I used a shower cap and let each section process for about 30 minutes. When Carlos’s roots processed to the perfect ash, free from any brassiness, I applied Redken Shades EQ ¼oz. 9P, ¼oz. 9V, ¼oz. 9T and equal parts clear, combined with processing solution, and let this formula sit for five minutes. Next, I ran the toner through the full length of his hair for a total of seven minutes, which neutralized any lingering yellow. The result was a bright, icy, platinum blonde. I always end bleach-and-tone appointments with the IGK Offline mask to ensure hair strength and vibrancy.
“I think platinum blonde will always be trending,” Empey continues. “It makes a bold statement for both men and women.”
