The 2025 awards season is kicking off with the Golden Globes! Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, the 82nd Golden Globe Awards celebrates excellence in film and American television for 2024. The hottest television and movie stars were in attendance, kicking off what is sure to be an exciting year of hair inspo — from dramatic cuts, stunning colors and elegant styles. Here, Beauty Launchpad breaks down our 10 favorite hair looks of the night, providing tutorials and insights that suggest that vintage and Old Hollywood aesthetics are here to stay!
1. Zoe Kravitz's Sleek Tight Bun
Slick-back styles and buns are a signature part of balletcore and coquette aesthetics, which gained massive popularity in 2024. The love for those looks doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Zoe Kravitz, one of the presenters for the night, embodied balletcore with her floor-length black velvet Saint Laurent gown with a cream-colored bow around her waist and slicked back mini bun.
Hairstylist Nikki Nelms (@nikkinelms) created the look using Paul Mitchell's Smooth Collection.
How-To:
- Prep the look with Super Smooth Shampoo and Super Smooth Conditioner from Paul Mitchell.
- After blow-drying the hair with the Paul Mitchell Neuro+ hair dryer, flat-iron with the Smooth+ Ceramic Flatiron, ensuring a beautifully silky texture.
- To achieve the sleek, tight bun, incorporate the Super Skinny Serum from the Smooth Collection. Nelms shares,
"I love this product because it not only tames frizz but also gives a perfect shine and a flawless finish." - Finally, to ensure the look remains in place throughout the night, seal it all in with the Classic Freeze and Shine Super Spray!
2. Emma Stone's Pixie Cut
Pixie cuts were a massive trend in 2024, for their whimsy and classic 1920s style. The cut is also perfect for clients on the go who want an efficient, low-maintenance look that doesn't force them to sacrifice style.
Emma Stone, producer for nominated film "A Real Pain," debuted her shortest cut yet: a dramatic nutmeg-colored pixie cut.
Hairstylist Mara Roszak (@mararoszak) styled Stone's hair for the night using her brand ROZ's Evergreen Style Cream and Tracey Cunningham (@traceycunningham1) created the color using Schwarzkopf Professional.
Below is the formula Cunningham used to create the beautifully natural, multidimensional red hue that glows with a glass-like shine.
How-To:
All-Over Color: Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA VIBRANCE
- 10g 8-0, 10g 7-55, 10g 7-57, 10g 9-7
- 40g 6 vol lotion
- Processing time: 20 minutes
Gloss Overlay: Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA VIBRANCE
- 5g 9-7, 5g 0-55, 5g 7-77
- 6 vol gel
- Processing time: 4 minutes
3. Miley Cyrus' Spiky Updo
Last year, Miley Cyrus turned heads with her voluminous hairdo at the Grammy Awards, and this year she's done it again with a spiky updo at the Golden Globes.
Styled by Bob Recine (@bobrecine) using Nexxus Haircare, the style embraces punk and anime influences popular in the 1970s and part of current Y2K trends.
How-To:
- First, spray the Nexxus Heat Defense Spray Prep & Protect to damp hair and then blow dry.
- Next, add the Nexxus Epic Shine Spray. Then, twist hair into pins, leaving pieces out so it still looks undone and messy.
- Once it’s to your client's liking, use the Nexxus XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray to lock everything in place.
- Lastly, finish off with the Nexxus Ultra Lightweight Repair & Nourish Hair Oil.
4. Zendaya's Old Hollywood Bob
Old Hollywood and vintage hairstyles were a hit at the Golden Globes and are sure to continue to be a trending style into the rest of 2025.
One of the most defining looks from the night that embraces that aesthetic is Zendaya's faux bob, styled by Coree Moreno (@theonlycm123).
Moreno used Bellami Hair chestnut and chocolate clip-ins for a warm winter tone, Nexxus Haircare volume mousse for a soft shine and hold and ghd North America styling tools to refine her roller set.
5. Nicole Kidman's Voluminous Bouffant
Another hairstyle that pays homage to Old Hollywood, Nicole Kidman's voluminous 1960s bouffant was styled for the night by Adir Abergel (@hairbyadir). The look is the ultimate baby girl style, a playful nod to the film that led Kidman to receive a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.
Abergel used products from Virtue Labs, Kristin Ess and Denman Brush styling tools and extensions from Bellami Hair to create the look.
How-To:
- Spray Virtue's Volumizing Primer on the roots.
- Then, apply Damage Reverse Serum from roots to ends.
- Once the prep is done, use Kristin Ess' Soft Volume Blow Dry Brush to smooth the hair, before pulling it tight into a ponytail and incorporating Bellami 18-inch Silk Seam Clip-In Hair Extensions in Golden Hour to the crown and the back of the head.
- Then, use Kristin Ess' Titanium Curling Iron to shape the hair.
- Finish with Virtue's Healing Oil for a high-shine finish.
6. Ariana Grande's Auburn Updo
We've been holding space for "Wicked" throughout all of 2024 and will continue to do so in 2025 as we await part two of the film. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are a dynamic duo, and each of them have been the center of conversations in the beauty space — with Erivo's nails being a continual showstopper and Grande's hair looks serving as inspo for plenty of 20-somethings.
For the Golden Globes, Grande paid homage to Audrey Hepburn, stepping away from her bright blonde Glinda hair color.
Colorist Rachel Bodt (@rachel_bodt) shifted Grande's hair color to a warm, light auburn-brown base with chunky highlights. The look harkens back to Hepburn's color in "Breakfast at Tiffany's," where she sported thick blonde highlights in her caramel hair.
Hairstylist Gabor Kerekes (@gabork_mua) created a bouncy ponytail with sweeping micro bangs for Grande to mimic Hepburn's signature hairstyle.
7. Justine Lupe's Soft Waves
No matter how understated they may be, soft Old Hollywood waves will always be a classy choice for awards night.
Part of the cast of "Nobody Wants This," nominated for Best Comedy Series, Justine Lupe's elegant hair look for the night was created by hairstylist Barb Thompson (@barbdoeshair) using products from PHYTO.
“We wanted to showcase Justine’s healthy, strong, yet touchable hair and create a look that exudes classic, long lasting beauty," shares Thompson.
How-To:
- Start with PHYTO’s BLONDE Brightening Shampoo and BLONDE Enhancing Conditioner.
- To detangle, use SOFTNESS Express Detangling Milk from mids to ends to prevent frizz and make the hair shine.
- Once the hair is brushed out, spray the VOLUME Volumizing Spray at the root for lift. Then, use the PRO STYLE Texturizing Paste for long lasting hold and texture throughout the mids to ends.
- Once the hair is dry, spray PRO STYLE Laque Soie throughout each section and brush through for shine, hold and touchable movement. After spraying the section, follow through the ends with an 1.5 inch iron to subtly curl under the ends.
- To finish, use a small amount of the PRO STYLE Shine Wax right on the part to tame any flyaways and polish off the look.
8. Margaret Qualley's Diamond Headband Bouffant
Grande wasn't the only one paying homage to Audrey Hepburn at the Golden Globes last night. Nominated for her work on "The Substance," actress and model Margaret Qualley channeled Hepburn's signature updos with a 1960s bouffant adorned with a thin diamond headband.
Hairstylist Anna Cofone (@annacofone) created the look, which featured plenty of volume at the crown and was styled in a half-up and half-down fashion, using products and tools from Authentic Beauty Concept and TYMO BEAUTY.
The look was enhanced by Qualley's long, rich and glossy brunette locks that cascaded down her back. Colorist Tracey Cunningham created Qualley's color for the night using Schwarzkopf Professional, which is sure to be a fan favorite this year with Mocha Mousse being Pantone's Color of the Year in 2025.
9. Selena Gomez's 1940s Old Hollywood Bob
If 2024 was anyone's year, it's Selena Gomez. The actress starred in two Golden Globes-nominated productions "Emilia Pérez" and "Only Murders in the Building," guest starred in the "Wizards of Waverly Place" reboot, got engaged to music producer Benny Blanco and continue to grow her cosmetics brand Rare Beauty.
To celebrate her big year at the Golden Globes, Gomez needed a defining hair look to pair with her blue Cinderella Prada gown. Hairstylist Renato Campora (@renatocampora) opted for a 1940s Old Hollywood bob, using tools from ghd North America to create the style.
How-To:
- First, section the hair into 2-inch parts to blow dry hair with the ghd Helios Dryer. Blow dry the front left section upward and backward, then side part upward and forward.
- After, divide hair into 2-inch horizontal sections, then take 1-inch vertical section and curl with the ghd Classic Curl Iron. Curl and pin through the back and right front side.
- For the left front section, use the ghd Classic Curl Iron for the bottom and the ghd Soft Curl Iron for the top, curling forward and pinning. Using two different size irons allows the top section to lay beautifully on the tighter bottom waves.
- Lastly, allow the hair to cool for 15 minutes before removing the pins and brush through with the ghd Oval Dressing Brush for a smooth, voluminous finish.
10. Elle Fanning's Updo with Side Swept Bangs
Actress Elle Fanning attended this year's Golden Globes to support her sister Dakota, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for her work in "Ripley." She stunned in a custom satin Balmain gown adorned with leopard print embroidery.
To compliment her statement dress, hairstylist Jenda Alcorn (@justjenda) created a classy updo that featured side swept bangs using products from L'Oréal Paris.
How-To:
- Start by prepping the hair with EverPure Sulfate-Free Glossing System Shampoo and Conditioner.
- For extra shine, use the EverPure Sulfate Free Glossing 5-Minute Lamination Hair Mask.
- Next, detangle the hair using EverPure Sulfate Free 21-in-1 Moisture Spray and EverPure Bond Repair Hair Oil-in-Serum to protect the hair before blow drying.
- Use Elnett Anti-Frizz Slick Back Hairstyling Cream to shape the hair into a shiny sleek style.
- Once the hair is pinned into place, finish with Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray Unscented to ensure the look lasts all night.
