Q&A:

Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?

Jordan Domizio Misinonile (JM): As the youngest of six, I'm somewhat of a tomboy who grew up riding quads and dirt bikes. When I was 23, I played in two pool leagues, which led me to Vegas for winning regionals. Aside from running my business, my other passions include fitness and home renovations. I can lay some pretty mean custom tiles, which led to my nickname “Jord of all Trades.”

BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?

JM: Funny story, I actually knew I wanted to be a hairdresser when I was 10. I shared in my 5th grade yearbook that doing hair was my passion, and I wanted to pursue just that! I started cosmetology school when I was 14!

BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?

JM: Opening up my own salon was one of the most exciting moments in my life! It was always a dream for me as a young girl. At 27 years old, I was able to achieve that goal in front of my kids, husband, family and friends!

BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?

JM: I love seeing not only my clients but hairdressers learning to embrace their natural texture! Most don't even realize what our hair can do if we learn to train it correctly! I will always be a sucker for long hair, and once you add a little product to enhance that texture, it gives such a stunning lived-in look!

BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow stylists who are looking to grow their following on socials?

JM: Consistency has to be one of the biggest but also most difficult keys to building a following. This is something I still keep in mind every day and try my best to stay on top of while maintaining the balance of being a mom of two boys, wife, business owner, etc. Social media has definitely changed throughout the years, and exposure can be very hard to achieve; however, I believe the more you post, stay relevant and remain consistent to your brand, the more you will be noticed!

BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?

JM: Be patient with your growth; however, be sure you are always the hardest working in the room. In this industry, client retention is what grows us into the stylists we are. Becoming discouraged that you aren't growing fast enough will lead you to situations and a clientele that may question your career. Be honest and give direction to the client, and never be afraid to say no. The more I started to believe and be aware of what my two hands can create, the more I found myself working on clients who best suited me. The relationships are more important than the dollar amount!

BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?

JM: This may sound crazy, but LISTEN to the hair. Hair never lies and will never lead you in the wrong direction. You can always tell when there is too much build up or not enough hydration or when the hair is over processed, very porous, due for a cut, etc! Whenever you feel like the process may not be beneficial to your client, tell and show them. EXPLAIN the process. They will never question your ability as a stylist when you show them why you may or may not be able to achieve the desired look.

BLP: What inspires your work?

JM: I can definitely speak on who inspires me! Since day one, my two inspirations have been @paintedhair (Patricia) and @aaashleee (Ashley). The versatility between both their work will always leave me speechless! Following that, becoming an educator for Truss Professional. It's such an honor being around some of the most incredible styles in the world, and the fact I have been able to work alongside them always makes me want to push so much harder not only as a stylist but a person!

BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?

JM: My clients!!! I am so grateful every day that I've been able to create magic on a different muse daily. Without my clients I would have never had the opportunities like I do now, and that all started with them believing in me, which led me to believe in myself! Also, my two kids, Giovanni (13) and Skye (4). I want my boys to be proud of who I am and what I've made of myself throughout my career. I want this to be a major eye opener to them both showing how hard work truly pays off! They are my everyday motivators!

BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?

JM: Providing mentorship for young hungry stylists! Understanding there is room in this industry for everyone and supporting the growth of others! There will never be a time in your life that if a moment was meant for you, it wouldn't happen for you. As a business owner, it's always an honor to help those around me thrive and become successful stylists. They will always remember what you did for them and how much you believed in the passion they have for the industry. Support one another, ALWAYS!!

BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?

JM: A career goal of mine is to share my education globally. There is nothing I've found myself loving more than being an educator. I find it so fulfilling to be able to explain from start to finish how I create all types of looks giving others stylists that “ah ha” moment. I’d be lying if I said the hustle I put in every day and have been for the past 15 years better be for the outcome of having a little hole in the wall cafe by the beach by the time I turn 55. Sunshine, espresso and an aperol spritz at whatever time of day will be my “I  made it” moment  :)
