The Academy Awards closed out the major awards season events by celebrating excellence in film over the past year. The awards also set the stage for bold fashion and hair trends. While we have a separate article focused on the gorgeous updos, elegant bobs and vintage Hollywood styles sported by the ladies, we also wanted to spotlight male grooming! From tailored haircuts to meticulous skincare routines, the red carpet was a testament to how men are redefining what it means to look sharp. In this roundup, we’re diving into our top eight favorite men's looks of the night.
1. Omar Apollo
Arguably one of the best dressed male attendees of the night, singer, songwriter and actor Omar Apollo stunned on the red carpet in Valentino with a lizard brooch. His rosy blush and smudged eyeliner brought attention to the veil headpiece he wore atop his braided updo.
Anna Bernabe (@heyannabee) styled Apollo's hair for the evening for a look that blended masculine and feminine and turned heads on the red carpet.
2. Sebastian Stan
If there's anyone who made us make total heart eyes on the red carpet, it's Sebastian Stan. Nominated for Best Actor for his work in "The Apprentice," Stan looked radiant on the red carpet in a Prada tuxedo, pale yellow poplin, cummerbund and bowtie.
Erica Adams (@ericaerk) styled his hair for the night.
3. The Culkin Brothers
Both Macaulay and Kieran Culkin attended the Academy Awards. It was a particularly special night for the latter, who took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in "A Real Pain."
Hairstylist Benjamin Parker Thigpen (@benjaminthigpen) styled Kieran for the night using products from Lab Series for skincare and grooming. His hair look for the night paired perfectly with his custom tuxedo by Zegna, consisting of a shawl collar jacket in a deep green, paired with a black tuxedo shirt, black bow tie and black tuxedo trousers.
Hairstylist Anissa Salazar (@anissaemily) used R+Co to style actor Macaulay Culkin with a voluminous hairdo for the Vanity Fair after party, which he attended with his partner Brenda Song.
“The inspiration for the look was to complement his suit. We wanted to play off of the vintage, classic Hollywood vibe to create a voluminous, textured style with a high shine finish,” says Salazar.
How-To:
- On wet hair, apply R+Co ROCKAWAY Sea Salt Spray and Tecuane Esperanza Scalp Tonic.
- Over direct the hair while blow drying to build extra volume.
- Add in texture powder and flat iron sections of hair to go in a smooth direction.
- Finish with hairspray.
4. Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield always turns heads on the red carpet, and this year's Academy Awards was no exception. Garfield wore a custom chocolately-brown Gucci shirt and silk shirt to the event, paired with sunglasses for a chic accessory, where he presented the award for Best Animated Feature.
Christine Nelli (@nellichristine) styled his hair for the evening using Dior and KEVIN.MURPHY.
5. Timothée Chalamet
Nominated for Best Actor for his work in "A Complete Unknown," portraying Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet made a splash on the red carpet in a buttery yellow Givenchy suit.
Celebrity Men's Groomer Jamie Taylor (@jamie_grooming) created his tousled hair look for the night.
6. Giancarlo Esposito
Fresh off his press tour for "Captain America: Brave New World," Giancarlo Esposito attended the Academy Awards wearing a classic Canali suit paired with a brooch from Leighton Jewels.
Celebrity groomer Michael Dueñas (@michaelduenas) prepped Esposito for the night using Good Molecules, Danessa Myricks Beauty and Jaxon Lane Skincare products.
How-To:
- To prep the actor’s skin, Dueñas used the Ultra-Hydrating Facial Oil from Good Molecules, mixed with the Jaxon Lane Relax and Repair - Ultimate Anti-Aging Moisturizer for deep hydration.
- He then used Danessa Myricks Beauty’s versatile foundation-concealer hybrid, Vision Cream Cover, to brighten the skin and cover any signs of redness and irritation.
- For the hair, Dueñas groomed the actor and topped off his look using the House of Skuff Potion No. 1 Styling Cream for a light medium hold that gives that elegantly disheveled look.
7. Colman Domingo
If there's anyone you expect to make the best dressed list at every awards show, it's Colman Domingo. He did it again at the Academy Awards, sporting a red Valentino blazer, adorned with a gold brooch, with a matching sash belt and black flared pants.
Barber Chaz Hazlitt (@ceehazthebarber) styled his hair for the night.
8. Jeff Goldblum
As the Wizard in "Wicked," it's no surprise Jeff Goldblum looked snazzy on the Academy Awards red carpet in a cream-colored Prada suit with an orchid on his lapel. He also wore a patterned floral shirt, black pants and a black bow tie. For an added pop of color, Goldblum draped a lilac scarf around his neck.
Hairdresser David Cox (@davidcoxhair) styled Goldblum's hair for the evening.
