Today, you will get to know Meg Gilbert (@mermeghair). She is a 27-year-old stylist at Olive and Ivy Salon in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Meg Gilbert (MG): I have two corgis – Whinnie and Peach!
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
MG: My salon – It’s never something I imagined doing, and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s constantly challenging and making me a better person. I’m thankful the universe gave me this opportunity.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
MG: I’m OBSESSED with extensions, and I love black and rainbows together.
BLP: What is a hair tip you have for your fellow stylists?
MG: My best hair tip would have to be when applying vivids, don’t scrub the product in! Gently work the product in side to side with your brush and saturate heavily.
BLP: What do you love about your work?
MG: I love the connection I make with other people. My clients, stylists, hair models, salon owners, strangers on the internet – I love people so deeply, so fast. I want to make other people feel good about themselves and hear their story.
BLP: What motivates you about the industry you are in?
MG: It motivates me that things are changing. More happy salon environments, more inclusivity, better work boundaries, understanding of business, less gatekeeping – I’m so happy to be a part of this.
BLP: What is a professional goal you have for yourself?
MG: I want to have a fully trained and staffed salon by the end of 2024! I’m so careful of what energy I allow into the space, but it’s time to share what we have created!
