Q&A:

Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?

Presley Bassinger (PB): I was named after Elvis Presley

BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?

PB: I went to Paul Mitchell after high school. Shortly after graduating, I went on to assist and start commission at a small local salon. If it wasn’t for my friend Lauren for always pushing me to take the next jump, I would’ve stayed, but here I am today 11 years in, and I now own my own commission/rental salon.

BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?

PB: First: my two children Brynlee and Greyson. Second: my salon. Something I never thought I wanted until the time just finally felt right.

BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?

PB: More natural bright blondes. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good platinum blonde, but the natural tones are just so gorgeous.

BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow stylists who are looking to grow their following on socials?

PB: Never give up. Consistency is key. Always show your face! People want to see the person behind the brand. It may be uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it!

BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?

PB: To listen to your heart more and take the risk. Although change may be scary, nothing is scarier than staying stagnant.

BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?

PB: Make sure you understand the money side of the business. If you plan to rent, understand your numbers and keep your business and personal accounts separate.

BLP: What inspires your work?

PB: Being able to transform someone, and getting to see the glow they have after.

BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?

PB: My team, being able to teach and showing others what this industry can offer.

BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?

PB: Although I feel like it’s improving, not taking advantage of newer stylists as salon owners. I personally fell victim to that at a young age, and my whole goal behind opening a salon is to show baby stylists how a salon should run. By no means am I saying that I’m perfect, but I’m always striving to be better for my team.

BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?

PB: To be known for the extension transformations I do. I want to be known as the salon to go locally.
