Q&A with Kisandra
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Kisandra Taylor (KT): I run two beauty businesses! I specialize in vivid hair color and also do fine-line tattoos through my second brand, Taylor Luxe.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
KT: I started in a commission-based salon right out of beauty school, which gave me a strong foundation. I worked my way up to manager, where I discovered how much I loved educating. My husband was the first person who truly believed in me and pushed me to go independent. That, plus the downtime during COVID, helped me grow my social media and land my first educator role with Guy Tang, and that lit a fire in me to keep going.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment/achievement in the industry so far?
KT: Getting to teach at Premiere Beauty Show. It was a full-circle moment. I went from sitting in the crowd dreaming of “someday" to being the one with the mic. That moment made every late night, every risk and every doubt completely worth it.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair/nail trend?
KT: High-contrast dimension and bold, chunky money pieces. The more drama, the better!
BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow beauty pros who are looking to grow their following on socials?
KT: Be consistent, and be yourself. I built my following by showing up, educating for free and connecting with my community. The Hairbestie fam and my Hair Slayerz team have been such a big part of that journey. I’m also super grateful for the brands that have believed in me along the way, like Mydentity, K18, JRL, Oli G, Styletek Beauty and so many more. A lot of them even help support my classes with goodie bags and giveaways. When you build real relationships with brands you love, it shows and opens doors.
BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry?
KT: Find someone who’s booked and assist them. You’ll learn so much, and they’ll likely send you overflow clients. It’s a smart way to build fast while gaining real world experience.
BLP: What is a tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful in your services or business?
KT: Set a schedule that supports your life. I take clients Tuesday through Friday, use Mondays for content or catch-up and keep weekends for family and friends. That balance keeps me energized and creative.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
KT: Guy Tang. His creativity and branding inspired me early in my career, and getting to work with him was an incredible opportunity that helped shape where I am now.
BLP: What is a practice/ritual you have to care for your mental health and set boundaries between your work and personal life?
KT: My schedule is my boundary. My husband and I make sure weekends are for family, and I’ve created space to be present for my kids’ games and personal life. I also have the best support system: not only my husband but my sister Jenna —she helps keep me organized — and my side kick Lexie. Seriously, we are inseparable. She has helped and assisted me at every event! I want to thank my friends Britnee and Trynda. They show up for everything and support me, and I’m so thankful for them.
BLP: What do you think needs to change in the industry to help beauty pros continue to grow and thrive?
KT: We need more community and less competition. Share what you know. When we lift each other up, the whole industry wins.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
KT: I’d love to create a tool or product line for vivid colorists, something functional and elevated. I want to keep educating and pouring into others the way others did for me.
