We are spotlighting the winners of Beauty Launchpad’s 25 Under 50K contest, sponsored by Platinum Seamless.
Meet Maranda Brown (@marandarosehair). She is a cosmetologist and owner of Maranda Rose Hair in North Haven, CT.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Maranda Brown (MB): I am a huge Taylor Swift fan, and I love that when people hear her they think of me.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
MB: My mom owned a salon and was a licensed nail technician. I knew coming out of high school I was going to go to school for nails and follow in her footsteps, since I grew up watching and playing with nails. While I was in school for that, I was assisting the hairstylists in the salon I worked at the time and, from there, decided to go back to school for hair.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
MB: Moving my entire life from Florida to Connecticut to further my education in my career.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
MB: I love lived-in color, and I hope it never goes away.
BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow stylists who are looking to grow their following on socials?
MB: You have to put in the work. Take lots of pre-planned content, plan out your post ahead of time and post at least 3 times a week.
BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?
MB: Everything happens for a reason.
BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?
MB: I swear by a tap root at the front hairline. I believe that it helps with the grow-out and gives it a more natural look.
BLP: What inspires your work?
MB: The stylists I work with and other stylists online that I see. Whether it's a new formula or new sectioning, I love to take something I see and play with it and make it my own.
BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?
MB: My clients. My clients will send me new ideas and also let me try new techniques I see and want to try. They trust me and that means everything.
BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?
MB: Stop comparing ourselves to others.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
MB: At the moment I am there. A year ago, I made a huge switch with going on my own as an independent stylist and running my own business, so I'm really focused on that and making sure my clients are happy and taken care of. My goal for that is to make sure I give them the full salon experience, making it worth their time being in my chair.
