From blistering sun rays to relentless humidity to saltwater and chlorine—not to mention the constant act of sweeping hair into a topknot (guilty!)—summer weather and activities can be hard on your clients’ hair. We asked our Instagram community about recommendations for keeping strands healthy during the balmy months. Here’s what they had to say.

@rachk.stylist: I always recommend deep-conditioning treatments and wearing a hat in the sun.

@beauty_bybritni: Always apply sunscreen where the hair parts.

@urstylist03My summer hair care tips are to use cool water in the shower for blonde and color-treated hair; lower the heat setting on thermal styling tools; do not pull hair up while it is wet; and deep-condition hair for moisture once a week.

@los_pastel: I tell my clients to apply a conditioner before swimming.
