Sabrina Carpenter's French Twist and Vintage Hollywood Waves
After a massive year with the release of her chart-topping album "Short n' Sweet," Sabrina Carpenter celebrated big at the Grammys, taking home two awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Celebrity hairstylist Evanie Frausto (@evaniefrausto) created both of Sabrina Carpenter's stunning hair looks for the night using products from Redken. Carpenter started on the red carpet with a French twist, later transitioning to tousled, glamorous waves for her performance of "Espresso" and "Please, Please, Please."
Of her red carpet look, Frausto shares, "I styled a French twist at the back—keeping it polished yet relaxed to highlight the dramatic open-back silhouette and beautiful diamond necklace she’s wearing. We ensured the shape remained clean and structured, while in the front, we left soft, flirty texture to create the illusion of a chic, short haircut. Of course, we styled her signature bangs, enhancing the effortless, sultry vibe. The final look was an undone yet refined updo—capturing that perfect balance of glamour and spontaneity, like the effortlessly sexy aftermath of a night out."
Red Carpet How-To:
- First, Sabrina shampooed and conditioned her hair using the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Conditioner to deeply nourish and moisturize.
- After rinsing, we applied Redken Quick Blowout from roots to ends for heat protection and smoothness.
- While her hair was still damp, we worked in Redken Stay High Mousse, brushing it through for even distribution. To add extra volume, we applied a touch of Redken Root Lifter at the crown.
- For the blowout, we used the L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro along with a 1.25-inch metal round brush, setting the hair for maximum body and movement.
- Once the blowout was complete, we curled her hair with a one-inch iron, pinning each curl to set. As the curls cooled, we misted Redken Control Hair Spray all over for added hold.
- After the curls had set, we took them down and brushed them out to create soft, effortless waves. Then, with a swift and seamless touch, I styled a French twist at the back.
Performance How-To:
- For Sabrina’s performance look, we transitioned from the updo she wore on the carpet, refreshing her hair by lightly dampening it with water and a touch of Redken Quick Blowout. We then quickly dried it with our hands, using the L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro to smooth out any kinks from being pinned up.
- Once the hair was prepped, we used a ¾-inch curling iron to curl the top section—everything above the occipital bone—setting it for added shape and movement. For the bottom half, we opted for a ½-inch curling iron, creating extra bounce and volume at the ends. As the curls set, we misted Redken Control Hair Spray throughout for hold before taking them down.
- To enhance the texture, we applied Redken Dry Texture Spray, giving the hair a soft, brushed-out, fluffy finish.
- We then locked in the look with another light mist of Redken Control Hair Spray, perfected her signature bangs, and that was it—the perfect voluminous and glamorous style for her performance.
Chappell Roan's Modern Victory Roll
Another singer who had a massive year, Chappell Roan won a Grammy for Best New Artist. Celebrity hairstylist Dom Forletta (@domforletta) used amika products to create a larger than life hairstyle for Roan for the night to pair with her Jean Paul Gaultier ballgown, which featured prints of ballerinas inspired by Edward Degas’ famous paintings.
"The inspiration behind Chappell's hair tonight was to create something that authentically matched her - but bigger and better. Each product we chose to use was intentional to tie the entire look together and make her stand out on the carpet," Forletta shares.
How-To:
- We began with Chappell’s hair freshly air-dried and unwashed. This allows for a more natural texture, which we’ll enhance as we go.
- To remove excess oil and give the roots a lift, I spray amika's perk up dry shampoo directly at the roots. This helps wake up the hair and refresh it for styling.
- Next, I apply amika's superfruit star lightweight hair styling oil to the ends of her hair. This step provides heat protection, while adding shine and softness to the hair.
- Now, I section the hair and begin curling, using the smallest barrel from the Wavytalk Curlmaker Pro. I alternate the direction of each curl to create maximum movement and texture.
- Once the hair is fully curled, I add an extra layer of texture by taking random sections and wrapping them around hair pins. I then gently flat iron over the pinned sections using the Wavytalk Vent Sesh to create more definition and texture. While doing this, I use my fingers to separate and loosen the curls.
- To amp up the volume and length, I’ve pre-curled and styled Bellami Silk Seam Clip-In Hair Extensions in Cinnamon Mocha. I clip them into Chappell’s hair for added fullness and dimension. After the extensions are in, I give the hair a final brush-through to blend everything together and create a cohesive, voluminous look.
- To complete the style, I spray amika's un.done volume and matte texture spray throughout her hair. This adds extra volume, separation and a matte finish for more texture and fullness
- Lastly, we completed the look with a modern victory roll that is loosely pinned back.
- Chappell’s hair stays in this textured, voluminous look throughout the night, even after transitioning from the carpet to her big, all-down style for the evening.
Doechii's Blended Waves and Braids
Doechii took home a Grammy for Best Rap Album, becoming one of only three women to win the award since the category was introduced in 1989. Celebrity hairstylist Malcolm Marquez (@malcolm.marquez) created gorgeous blended waves to pair alongside Doechii's braids for the awards ceremony, using products from Thank God It's Natural (tgin).
How-To:
- “I started by prepping Doechii’s braids using the Thank God It’s Natural Miracle Styling Ayurvedic Hair & Scalp Oil, to keep her scalp balanced between looks.
- Next, I prepped her finger waves using the Miracle Styling Multi-Use Setting Foam, followed by the Miracle Styling Water Activated Curl Elongating Gel.
- I finished using the Miracle Styling 3-N-1 Heat Protectant Spray to add extra shine to the braids and waves.”
Benson Boone's Voluminous Curls
Nominated for Best New Artist, Benson Boone sported his signature tousled curls to the Grammys. Celebrity Hairstylist Melissa Dezarate (@melissa.dezarate) styled Boone's hair for the night using products from Bumble and bumble.
How-To:
- First, I started with alternating amounts of Bb.Thickening Blow-Dry Prep Spray and Bb.Curl Reactivator Moisturizing Hair Mist.
- I then took the Bb.Curl Defining Hair Mousse and lightly applied it, while redefining any loose curls back into place and diffuse drying the hair.
- Once the hair was almost completely dry, I started breaking up the curls to give a more laid back, unfussy look.
- Once his hair was completely dry, I took equal parts Bb.Brilliantine Shine Styling Cream and Bb.Curl Defining Styling Cream to give more definition and texture to any pieces that needed it.
- I finished with Bb.Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray to give a lasting hold that’s still touchable.
Chrissy Teigen's Blunt Bob
Chrissy Teigen attended the Grammys alongside her husband John Legend, who opened the awards alongside Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Dawes, Sheryl Crow and St. Vincent to pay tribute to Los Angeles amid ongoing wildfires that have devastated the city. Celebrity hairstylist and Dyson Global Ambassador Irinel De Leon (@hairinel) created a sleek blunt bob to pair with Teigen's Christian Siriano dress.
