Best Supporting Actress nominee for “Everything Everywhere All At Once” Stephanie Hsu rocked the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet in a Valentino gown and a low pony on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Celebrity hairstylist Dallin James used Hairstory products to achieve Hsu’s low knotted ponytail.

“Stephanie has pretty long hair and quite a bit of it so we are always trying different ways to find balance based on her proportions and what she is wearing,” James said. “She wore a Valentino Haute Couture gown with her shoulders exposed, so we wanted to keep everything lifted and off her shoulders. The team and I decided on a low knotted ponytail to keep the hair looking clean and fresh with a little bit of texture through the ends.”

You can get the how-to for Hsu’s red carpet hair look below.

How-To:

  1. Prep the hair by layering in from mid-shaft to the ends using the Hairstory Dressed Up Heat Protection Lotion, mixing in a few drops of the Hairstory Hair Oil to add a little bit of slip and moisture to the hair. Celebrity hairstylist Dallin James used products from Hairstory to create Stephanie Hsu's hair look for the Critics' Choice Awards.Celebrity hairstylist Dallin James used products from Hairstory to create Stephanie Hsu's hair look for the Critics' Choice Awards.courtesy of Juan Veloz
  2. Go section by section and apply the Hairstory Lift Volumizing Spray just at the root and pull each section into the direction of the ponytail so it will stay locked in place. This makes snatching the pony tail a lot easier when it comes to securing it with an elastic.
  3. After the pony tail is set, use a small amount of Hairstory Wax on your fingers to twist a pretty big section of hair around the ponytail to give it a knot-like appearance. Smooth down any baby hairs with a little bit of the Hairstory Wax and a toothbrush around her hairline.
  4. To finish the look, flat-iron some loose S waves through the lengths of the pony and mist the hair with Hairstory Undressed Hair Texturizing Spray to give it a textured finish.
