Salon Ziba celebrated the grand opening of its newest space on 57th St. in Manhattan last week, kicking it off with a party where cocktails and light bites flowed, beats pumped by DJ Franco V and a host of reality TV stars were in attendance including Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans and Kailyn Lowry-Marroquin, The Singles Project’s Dr Tabasum Mir, and The Real Housewives Of New York City’s Kelly Killoren Bensimon.

Located just down the street from his first salon, owner Alonso Salguero always kept his eye on the former Prada showroom and NY Jets office space, which will be the salon’s sole future home. “The idea was to remain relevant on 57th St.,” explains Salguero. “For us this is important because we’ve built a tremendous clientele base over the years and they want us to stay here.”

The 4,000-square-foot, white-on-white space designed by Peter Millard and Susan Kwon of Millard Design features 28 floating stations in the main room and two in a completely enclosed private room that houses a high-powered ventilation system, making outside noises and any odors almost non-existent. “The idea of building a private room is so that we can accommodate our VIPs and celebrities in a very private environment,” explains Salguero. Think: Adriana Lima, Rita Cosby and Saudi Arabian princesses, to namedrop a few.

Set like communal tables, the stations in the main space float in the center of the room and feature finished stainless steel and faux marble accents, drawers to tuck away stylists’ tools, and USB ports for clients’ every tech whim. “We used faux marble for the stations as it’s dye-resistant,” shares Millard. “Hair dye is specifically developed to stain permanently. It’s a lethal material for a lot of natural things.”

ything in the salon is meant to be in plain sight of clients. Think: a L’Oreal color bar with every color displayed and a trough and drainage system so stylists can mix up color while clients look on; a washing station with 8 high-end Maletti sinks and chairs, where every product is right at hand; a dry bar with 6 stations; an illuminated shopping area featuring Kerastase, Shu Uemura and Ziba products; and a Tricho bar featuring Kerastase treatments for people with hair and scalp issues including weakened, normal-to-dry and color treated locks. Bonus: Trichologists will be on hand to chat up clientele about the best treatment for their issues including offering up at-home recipes.

enormous floor-to-ceiling windows facing 57th St. and a ceiling flanked with LED lights, both natural and full-spectrum light pour into the salon, making the salon’s lighting scheme a colorist's dream. “When you want to focus on doing great color, it’s important to bring this type of light and bright environment,” explains Salguero.

The alcove ceiling was also designed to be light-reflective, eye-catching and a way to entice street traffic. “We designed the well in the ceiling with silver leaf so when you look up from the street it will be phenomenal,” notes Millard, who also added thinly shaven wooden Japanese chandeliers for an added touch. Mirrored cubes set on top of the stations also reflect L’Oreal images as you walk down 57th St. “You see fashion images reflected and you aren’t even sure where they are coming from,” shares Millard. “It’s really beautiful.”
