Rebecca Minkoff, Essie’s global color designer, called on her Southern California roots when searching for inspiration for Essie’s Spring 2017 collection. Minkoff took over The Grove in Los Angeles to debut the carefree, 70s surf-inspired collection, complete with airy silhouettes, bohemian florals and retro graphics to evoke a relaxed, casual feel, and black, white, denim and leather to give a nod to downtown edge.
A slew of well-known celebrities and influencers walked the runway, including Jamie Chung, Chriselle Lim, Aimee Song, Victoria Justice and Coco Rocha, to name a few. To complete the look, models wore shades from Essie’s Spring 2017 collection in a graphic nail art design. The exact products that were used to create the nail look seen on the runway went live for purchase immediately following Rebecca’s show and can be found as part of an exclusively curated bundle on Amazon.com.
Get the Look:
- Lead nail artist, Michelle Saunders, applied one coat of First Base Base Coat to dry, clean nails, followed by a coat of Mademoiselle.
- To create the monochromatic rainbow design, she used a striping brush to create four, thin arches with the season’s latest shades. She began with Designated DJ just below halfway down the nail, then continued to paint each arch thinly with B’aha moment, Excuse Me Sur and Backseat Besties, slightly overlapping each color.
- Saunders finished the look with Gel.setter Top Coat.
