A salon space should be welcoming to all.
No matter their background, upbringing, race, sexuality or gender, your clients and fellow stylists should feel comfortable and accepted for who they are. But, this can sometimes be easier said than done. We asked our Instagram followers for their advice on how they keep their salon space inclusive for all.
@goldnbraidsalon: Creating a space to enter pronouns upon booking, and non-gendered services and pricing!
@mariahclokehair: Gender-neutral services and restrooms, texture-inclusive extension options and allow guests to opt in for silent appointments.
@glamrowstv: By offering services that cater to many different textures, not just straight and wavy; tight curls need love, too! 4c to 3a textures and beyond!
@beeskneeshairco: I have a private suite, so I offer guests the option to customize the space for their needs. I have options for sensory-friendly appointments, silent appointments, extended time for clients with chronic pain and anything else that will help make clients’ visits more comfortable. I also have spaces on my intake form for clients to input their pronouns, and my services are entirely gender-neutral.
@rebelstudiosalon: Gender-neutral salon menu of services.
@steviepshairsalon: Be proficient in providing services on every hair texture. Treat everyone who walks in your door with compassion and respect. If you build it, they will come.
