Celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway worked with Carmen Ejogo for the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, February 21st in Santa Monica, CA. Redway gave the Selma star a not-so-basic ponytail, adding interest by incorporating a chic, knot.

1. Says Redway, "I blew-dry Carmen’s naturally curly hair with a Mason Pearson Flat Brush while using Serge Normant Meta Lush Volumizer.
2. "Once dry, I flat-ironed sections of hair with a Harry Josh Pro Flat Iron before brushing hair into a ponytail.
3. "Once hair was secured in a ponytail, I took a piece from the ponytail to hide the hair band. I then split the ponytail into two sections and wrapped the right section around the left section to create a knot. After creating the knot, I used Goody Hair Pins to pin the loose section of hair close to the nape of the neck.
4. "I finished off the look with Oribe Anti-Humidity Hairspray."
