Hairstyles How To: A Crown of Curls at the Miss Universe Competition

This year, CHI was the Official Hair Care Sponser of the Miss Universe 2013 Competition, held in Moscow, Russia. Stylist for the brand spent two weeks creating the different styles worn by all 86 of the contestants for preliminary photo shoots, event and, of course, the live telecast of the competition.

In addition, the CHI team also created the hairstyles worn by the celebrity panel of judges, presenters and performers, including Jeannie Mai, recognized for her fashion segments on NBC’s “Today”; Steven Tyler, Aerosmith’s front man and lead singer; Tara Lipinski, Gold medal figure skater and 2014 Winter Olympics figure skating analyst for NBC Olympics’ multi-platform coverage; Carol Alt, TV personality, star of Fox News Channel's 'A HEALTHY YOU AND CAROL ALT’; Anne V, supermodel, actress, and mentor on Oxygen's upcoming season of “The Face”; and even Mr. Farouk Shami himself.

The glamourous event culminated in the crowning of the Miss Universe 2013 winner: Miss Universe Venezuela Gabriela Isler, the 7th winner to take home the crown from the the country of Venezuela. Gabriela's hair was perfected for her winning moment with volume and shine enhancing products by CHI Backstage Stylist Abel Salazar.

“I applied CHI Magnified Volume Finishing Spray and CHI Twisted Fabric to each section of hair before curling with a 1” CHI Orbit Wand. After curling we rolled each sub-section up with our fingers and set the curls with clips. Once all curls are set, we applied a little more finishing spray. One hour later, we removed all clips and brushed the hair. I used CHI Magnified Volume and CHI Shine Infusion to finish the look."
