TREND ALERT: Adornments
Designers: Nina Ricci, Junya Watanabe, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel, Erin Featherston, John Galliano
Sometimes luscious curls, extreme gloss, vivacious haircolor or expertly chopped bangs just aren’t enough. Sometimes a little added decoration is in order. For all of those looking to adorn their mops, behold: Beauteous baubles, organic materials and far-out fragments are tops this summer.
Fabulous, fresh-cut flora sprouts from silky tendrils, sitting pretty atop heads. Floppy bows, twittering butterflies and playful Lego blocks salute the little girl in all of us. Feathers feel fanciful: Odile Gilbert weaves a few into twiggy wreaths for Nina Ricci’s wood nymphs, while Bumble and bumble’s Lyndell Mansfield mimics mythological laurel wreaths at Erin Featherston. Although the most cutting-edge adornments—shards of broken mirror—may not be your clients’ go-to hair accessories this summer, the artfully scattered shards seen at Junya Watanabe certainly “reflect” the industry’s abounding ingenuity.
