Beauty Launchpad (BLP): Tell us about your journey in the industry. How did you get your start? What made you want to join the industry?
Brea Retic (BR): My journey into barbering began when I moved away from my hometown. I was searching for a way to rebuild my sense of community, and barbering became that outlet. What started as a skill quickly became a passion — it gave me a chance to connect, build friendships and serve others with my hands. I’ve always loved making people feel confident, and this industry gave me the platform to do that daily. "My journey into barbering began when I moved away from my hometown. BLP: Can you share a standout memory or experience from your time in the industry? What made it so impactful for you?
BR: One of the most powerful moments was teaching my own class for the first time. To look out into a room of people who trusted me to guide them and to see their excitement as they learned — that was surreal. It reminded me that the impact of a barber goes far beyond the haircut. We shape lives, not just hair.
BLP: What challenges have you faced as a female barber in the industry? How did you overcome them? What did you learn from those experiences?
"Being a woman in a male-dominated industry came with its share of doubt from others — people questioning my skills or assuming I couldn’t cut certain styles."Courtesy of Brea ReticBR: Being a woman in a male-dominated industry came with its share of doubt from others — people questioning my skills or assuming I couldn’t cut certain styles. I leaned into my passion, kept learning, kept showing up and let my work speak. I’ve learned that excellence will always rise above bias, and representation matters —especially for other women coming up behind me.
BLP: You’re a Global Educator with Andis and a member of SalonCentric’s #ItTakesAPro team. How did you find these opportunities, and how have they helped you grow in your career?
BR: These opportunities came from consistently showing up, staying authentic to my craft and building relationships. I shared my knowledge online, stayed active in my community and was always ready to serve. Being part of Andis and SalonCentric has sharpened my skills, broadened my network and helped me realize the power of education in changing lives. BLP: What are some essential steps you’ve taken in your journey to grow your business and brand that you would recommend to fellow hair pros?
BR: Consistency in both my craft and content has been key. I made sure to invest in learning, create a strong online presence — especially on Instagram and TikTok — and always communicate with intention. Hosting classes, building my Barberpreneur Blueprint and being transparent about my journey helped build trust and grow my brand organically.

What do you do to care for yourself and set boundaries, so you can continue to thrive in all that you do?
BR: I make time for movement — running and working out are major parts of my self-care. I also prioritize rest and set clear boundaries with my schedule, so I’m not pouring from an empty cup. Knowing when to say no and carving out time for family and friends helps me stay grounded and recharged.
BLP: What are the biggest challenges you see barbers facing currently? How can the industry better address those pain points?
BR: One big challenge is the pressure to constantly be visible online, while also staying booked and creative behind the chair. There’s also a gap in business education for many barbers. We need more access to mentorship, resources on branding and marketing and support for mental health. The industry thrives when we support the whole barber — not just their fades.
BLP: There’s been a wave of cosmetologists who want to enter the barbering space to be more inclusive in their offerings. What advice would you give them as they enter on that journey? What should they know?
BR: I’d say: embrace the learning curve, and respect the craft. Barbering is its own art form. Take the time to study clipper control, fades and techniques — it’ll only elevate your versatility. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance. The barbering world is full of educators ready to help bridge that gap.
BLP: Where do you see the barber industry heading?
BR: The future of barbering is rooted in versatility and community. I see more barbers blending technical skill with business savvy and education. It’s not just about cutting hair anymore — it’s about building brands, sharing knowledge and creating safe spaces for clients from all walks of life. BLP: What cuts do you expect to be trending this year, and why?
BR: Fades are forever, but I’m seeing a rise in textured crops, mullets and modern shags. Clients are becoming more expressive, and barbers are responding with creativity. People want cuts that match their personality, not just trends — and barbers are stepping up to deliver that individuality.
