Muss-placed ’dos champion DIY styling with messy attitude.
Designers: Michael Kors, Peter Som, Thakoon, Vera Wang
TREND ALERT: Fuzz
Let’s be honest. When left to her own devices, your client’s solution to styling her hair in a hurry is to either: A) let it air-dry into frizzed fluff, B) throw it into a mussed bun, or C) pull it into a ponytail. Certainly, your lovely lady has one thing on her mind: Ease, please!
Well, the good news is that backstage fixtures such as Orlando Pita, Eugene Souleiman and Guido Palau are making sloppy chic totally neat. Working with T3, Pita tosses frizzed waves into a romantic nest at Vera Wang and ties disheveled bouffants into slipshod knots on the Michael Kors runway. Souleiman, in conjunction with Aveda, whips up a frothy cloud of imperfection for Thakoon, which he deems, “ethereal, light, fresh, dreamlike…yet still tough.” And at Peter Som, Redken-backed Palau artfully backcombs his fuzzy chignons into place, allowing a swirl of hair to fall down the back as a simple afterthought. Certainly, these mess-assured styles take beaucoup talent to craft—but they also pave the way for clients everywhere to embrace a bit of mess when it comes to their tresses!
