Each season, Oribe and a team of talented stylists coif models for top fashion houses, and this season was no exception. At the Fall/Winter 2020 season of New York Fashion Week, Oribe was backstage at eight runway shows, creating unique, and purposeful styles for each individual show. We have the details on how you can recreate these styles for your high-fashion clients down below.
PRISCAVERA: Eclectic Beauty
PRISCAVera’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection celebrated youthful individuality, which Oribe stylist Mandee Tauber emphasized with a variety of hairstyles, from braided pigtails to long, textured tresses.
Braided Pigtails
STEP 1: Prep dry hair with Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray.
STEP 2: Flat iron hair for sleek, straight strands.
STEP 3: Split hair into two equal, vertical sections, leaving out two small pieces around the hairline.
STEP 4: Starting at the nape, braid each side tightly to create pigtails. Secure with elastics.
STEP 5: Finish the look with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray for shine and a light hold.
Tinsel Tresses
STEP 1: Add long pieces of silver and blue hair tinsel for dimension and pops of color.
STEP 2: Separate hair into two vertical sections and tightly braid each side.
STEP 3: Flat iron each braid to create crimps.
STEP 4: Remove braids and brush out waves with a flat brush.
STEP 5: Finish by misting Maximista Thickening Spray for hold.
BROCK COLLECTION: Sleek Chignons
Oribe’s James Pecis created an unexpected look for the Brock Collection by covering models’ faces with tulle fabric. Pecis played off the collection’s tailored lines and tough textures by creating a sleek chignon accessorized with the transparent fabric.
STEP 1: Saturate hair from roots to ends with Maximista Thickening Spray.
STEP 2: Blow dry hair flat, directing the hair back and down.
STEP 3: Once fully dry, smooth the hair line with Star Glow Styling Wax to keep the look sleek.
STEP 4: Add Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray through hair to create hold and eliminate flyaways.
STEP 5: Brush hair back into a low ponytail and secure at the nape.
STEP 6: Split the ponytail into two equal sections and liberally apply Star Glow Styling Wax.
STEP 7: Form a rope braid by twisting the two sections together.
STEP 8: Pin the braid up into a tight chignon.
STEP 9: Wrap a piece of tulle fabric around the face, securing the ends of the fabric around the chignon.
SANDY LIANG: Subtle Waves
For the Sandy Liang Fall/Winter 2020 show, Oribe stylist Dennis Lanni worked with natural textures to create subtle waves.
STEP 1: Prep hair with Foundation Mist and Mystify Restyling Spray.
STEP 2: Focus Volumista Mist for Volume on the roots for added lift.
STEP 3: Scrunch hair at the crown to create extra volume and texture.
STEP 4: Divide hair into two equal sections and loosely rope braid each side.
STEP 5: Once hair is set, remove braids for a loose, lived-in texture.
NICOLE MILLER: Undone Waves
Oribe’s Kien Hoang complemented the baroque-inspired Nicole Miller Fall/Winter 2020 collection with unstructured waves.
STEP 1: Prime hair with Mystify Restyling Spray to provide heat protection.
STEP 2: Apply Maximista Thickening Spray throughout the hair for hold.
STEP 3: Create waves by crimping back and forth on small sections with a 1-inch curling iron.
STEP 4: Add Swept Up Volume Powder Spray to the top layer of hair for grip and texture.
STEP 5: Focus Dry Texturizing Spray on the roots and scrunch up for effortless volume.
STEP 6: Brush through waves with a flat brush to achieve fluffy texture.
STEP 7: Apply a small amount of Gold Lust Pre-Shampoo Intensive Treatment on fingers and comb through for extra gloss.
PRIVATE POLICY: Glossy Texture
Oribe’s Kien Hoang created a slick back style to continue the genderless theme at the Private Policy Fall/Winter 2020 show.
STEP 1. Prime hair by applying Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream from mid-shaft to ends.
STEP 2. Spray Maximista Thickening Spray at the roots for hold.
STEP 3. With a diffuser, direct the hair away from the face to create a slicked-back look.
STEP 4. Once the hair is set, apply Crème for Style from roots to ends to give a wet look.
STEP 5. Secure with Superfine Strong Hair Spray.
STEP 6. For added shine, paint Silverati Illuminating Pomade from the top of the head to the nape.
CINQ A SEPT: Long Textured Tresses
The Cinq à Sept Fall/Winter 2020 was a show of women’s individuality. Oribe’s Kien Hoang furthers this concept through enhanced, natural curls, and textures.
STEP 1. Divide hair horizontally in small sections starting at the nape.
STEP 2. On the first section, spray Mystify Restyling Spray to dampen hair.
STEP 3. Hand comb the section to stretch out hair.
STEP 4. Apply Balm d’Or from roots to ends to hydrate and smooth.
STEP 5. Mist a layer of Gold Lust Dry Shampoo to create a satin-matte finish.
STEP 6. Repeat with each section.
STEP 7. Lock-in the style by drying hair fully with a diffuser, to then seal the ends with a flat iron.
STEP 8. Finish with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray to set and hold.
