Runway Report: The “Lela” Woman at Lela Rose

The beauty at Lela Rose stems directly from the “Lela Woman”: She’s effortless and cool yet polished. “It’s more about the Lela girl than any other sort of inspiration,” explains Lead Hairstylist Esther Langham. “And it’s all about the clothes so the hair complements them but doesn't take over.” To craft the easy, natural look, Langham first applies Alterna Bamboo Volume 48 Hour Sustainable Volume Hairspray from root to ends and then spritzes Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Perfect Texture Finishing Spray on roots for added texture. “Adding Perfect Texture just to the roots helps to break up any curl that’s in there,” she explains. Next, Langham creates a low side part that sweeps across the models’ foreheads and then tucks hair behind the ears to keep it away from the face and the details of the clothing. To finish the look, Langham crafts soft waves by wrapping large sections of hair around The Beachwaver Co Beachwaver S1 iron and then sprays on Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Working Hairspray. “Always keep moving the barrel,” Langham suggests. “You don’t want to create a curl or anything too structured. There should be a lightness as it needs to look and feel like hair.”

While the nail design may seem simple with only one coat of dark charcoal grey Londontown Lakur in Put The Kettle On, in actuality it’s the edgiest part of the head-to-toe beauty look. “It has the perfect pigment so you only need one coat, and we [opted] for no treatment on top so it would look a little undone,” explains Lead Nail Artist Geraldine Holford. “The Lela woman is put together and pretty, but she’s also a little rock-n-roll on the ‘DL’ and the nail is the one place she can get away with it!”

With dry air and frigid temps wreaking havoc on models’ skin, Lead Makeup Artist Romy Soleimani first takes care to prep and cleanse the models’ faces with Marula Pure Beauty Oil Foaming Cleansing Oil and Marula Pure Marula Facial Oil. “It’s especially helpful in this winter craziness!” she explains. For her makeup design, Soleimani focuses on the eye, rimming the lower lash line with khaki army green and gold Bliss Where There’s Smoke Longwear Eyeliner in Olive Me, a color which she pulled directly from the fashion collection. Soleimani next highlights the eye by pressing Bliss Feeling Bright Illuminating Under Eye Concealer in Radiant Ivory on the upper orbital eye area and Bliss Accent Lightening Brightening Stick in Candlelit in the inner eye corners. “The collection is quite minimal so we wanted to bring that into the makeup,” says Soleimani. “It’s also quite womanly and feminine so it’s nice to do something easy yet a little bit tough so it doesn’t look [too much] like a lady.”
