Hair Styles FASHION: Timo Weiland NYFW Spring/Summer 2013

For their Spring 2013 collection, designers, Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, were inspired by The Brooklyn Art Museum’s exhibit on Keith Haring, an artist whose work responded to the New York City street culture in the 1980s. “There is a lot of zig-zag patterns in the collection,”said L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio Artist, Joseph DiMaggio.

DiMaggio interpreted those lines with a modern take on cornrows and crimped hair, both of which were iconic hairstyles during the 80’s. According to Weiland, “The twisted long pony tail with the mock corn row French braid complemented the collection to a T.”

The overall look of the runway captured the free-spirited, funky vibe of the era with contrasting structure and asymmetrical parts. A “hip-hop” ponytail took center stage. To create this look, DiMaggio first applied L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Reinforcing Milk then smoothed out hair with a flat iron before parting from ear to ear and securing into a high ponytail. Hair at the crown was sleekly criss-crossed like a braid leading into the ponytail. The ponytail was then crimped for texture.

For a variation of modern asymmetric cornrows for the men, hair was first prepped with L’Oréal Professionnel Volume Expand Volumizing Leave-In Spray and parted from the left to the right side at a diagonal angle. To finish off the look DiMaggio first heated up L’Oréal Professionnel Architexture on his hands and then applied all over hair for a smooth and glossy finish.
L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium 3 finished off the looks for hold.
