Today, you will get to know Victoria Reyes (@colored_byvee). She is a 29-year-old stylist at The Modern Babe Westchester in Mamaroneck, New York.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Victoria Reyes (VR): I enjoy anything involving the discussion of spirituality, astrology and, of course, aliens! I’m highly intuitive and can read tarot.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
VR: My proudest accomplishment is becoming a mother – not only of my actual human children but my cats and plants as well. I love that it has evolved my nurturing side more than I could ever have imagined. It grows more and more every day.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
VR: My current favorite hairstyle trend is still and always will be color block placement. Whether it be the peek a boo right underneath the nape or block placement around the face with alternating colors, I can give you a classy look while embracing my uniqueness.
BLP: What is a hair tip you have for your fellow stylists?
VR: My biggest hair tip for fellow stylists is trust your gut. For example, if you are in the middle of a color correction and you aren’t sure what to do next, follow your own instinct. You are the guide for the hair to be in its best state. It starts by trusting yourself.
BLP: What do you love about your work?
VR: I love being able to help people see themselves the way I see them – Beautiful. I get great satisfaction when I see their face light up after a transformation or a new color. It makes me feel so good inside knowing that I am the person they look forward to seeing because they know they are going to look good and feel good after our time together.
BLP: What motivates you about the industry you are in?
VR: One thing that motivates me about this industry is that it’s constantly evolving and elevating. I’m sure you’ve heard the term “elevate the industry.” That’s what I’m seeing all over social media – stylists owning their careers without anyone telling them otherwise. We can earn the same amount of money and respect as other career fields because beauty indeed changes lives!
BLP: What is a professional goal you have for yourself?
VR: A professional goal I have for myself is being able to share all that I’ve learned along the way. I’ve actually tried reaching out to a few local beauty schools in my area about teaching a class for a day or even a technique. Unfortunately, I haven’t had luck just yet, but it would mean the world to me to start tapping into education behind the chair for upcoming hair artists.
