Today, you will get to know Julian Tinsley (@jules.journie). He is a 25-year-old stylist at Unico Hair Studios in Fullerton, California.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Julian Tinsley (JT): I love K-pop a lot. Blackpink and Twice are my two favorite K-pop groups.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
JT: Honestly, my proudest accomplishment is when I became an educator for The Mane Culture. I have always wanted to be an educator to help spread positivity and uplift the community. I get so much joy helping others any way I can.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
JT: I’ve been obsessing lately with reds, coppers and warmer tones in the hair. Anytime someone asks me to do any of them, they immediately become my favorite client of the day.
BLP: What is a hair tip you have for your fellow stylists?
JT: Don't be afraid to tone a copper or red hair color twice. Sometimes they can come out a little transparent, so I have just grown accustomed to toning them twice now. Don’t forget to rough dry the hair before smoothing it out – It will save you so much time!
BLP: What do you love about your work?
JT: My clients – I feel so blessed to have met such amazing people in my chair and to have watched so many lives go through so many changes. It is so beautiful, and to get to be a part of those changes is just wild to me. I also love that when clients come to my chair, they tell me that I am the best part of their day or something they look forward to. I feel so honored and appreciated.
BLP: What motivates you about the industry you are in?
JT: I am there for people when they need a shoulder to lean on. We truly are not just hairstylists – Sometimes we are therapists, a friend that is needed or a person to distract from reality. I love the many hats I wear at work to help with any needs my clients may have.
BLP: What is a professional goal you have for yourself?
JT: I always wanted to become an educator for a brand like Redken or Schwarzkopf.
