Oscars How-To: Maggie Gyllenhaal!

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
To blend au courant style with timeless elegance is a coup de grace not many have ever acheived. But on Oscar night, Best Supporting Actress nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal did just that, blending on-point beauty—i.e. her seemingly tie-dyed Dries van Noten gown—with classic style, courtesy of celeb stylist Mark Townsend, who shares his hair how-to with you!

"I'm calling Maggie's look for the Academy Awards 'Muse of Spring,'" laughs Mark. "I started by adding 4 or 5 drops of Moroccanoil Treatment to Maggie's wet hair to keep the hair smooth and shiny, and then added Sally Hershberger Style Primer for Normal to Thick Hair and blow-dried with a round brush. I set the hair in barrel curls on top to keep some lift at the roots. When all the hair was dry, I took out the barrel curls on top and sprayed Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax all over and scrunched the hair a bit to create amazing texture and give the hair an edge. I then gathered all the hair in the back in a very large bun. I pulled out a few flyaway hairs and made the bun oversized to give the look an editorial feel and keep it young, fresh and modern. To keep the hair shiny, I finished with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray, and Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to keep the hair in place all night. For a little special touch, I placed a hair accessory made by Jennifer Behr just for Maggie on the right side of the bun."
