This self-made artist and stylist was one of the top three finalists at the North American Hairstyling Awards this year—not bad, especially considering that he did everything himself for the meager cost of $5,000. He designed, cut and texturized the wigs and hand-crafted the costumes out of papier-mâiché. After his wife Ellna applied the models’ makeup, Penna photographed them, designing the photos to look somewhat surreal. The result is avant-garde at its most advanced, surrealism at its most fantastic, courage at its finest and art at its most inventive.
