Let’s Hear It for the Boys

Men’s grooming has never been more popular, and we have the info on how you can make the most of the male set in your salon. As we go to press, Cosmoprof North America is nearing its end. This show welcomes top stylists, salon owners and distributors from around the world to sample the latest and greatest innovations from the U.S. And if you needed any more proof that the men’s market is on fire—and here to stay—then you need look no further than Beauty Pitch, the first-ever Shark Tank-style live show, judged by none other than Mark Cuban and John Paul DeJoria. To be considered, the business had to already be making at least $5 million a year in sales—and one of those companies was 18:21 Man Made (1821manmade.com), a men’s line that takes its cue from the Prohibition Era. (Hence the name 18:21, which represents the 18th and 21st Amendments that imposed and revoked Prohibition, respectively.) While the line didn’t garner the coveted Grand Prize consisting of a yearlong mentorship with Cuban, it did win the Audience Choice Award, which will ensure that the brand is exhibiting here at Cosmoprof in 2016. For this issue we’re highlighting 18:21 Man Made, along with tons of other hot men’s lines, throughout these pages, including in our “Made for Men” feature beginning on page 78. What’s more, you can glean retailing advice on page 36, ways to approach color for the male set on page 42, as well as a host of men’s looks sure to ignite your passion for catering to the guys in your chair.
