French Braid Pin-Up
When your client is preparing for a special occasion like a wedding, or if the early fall days are still too hot to wear curls down, a beautifully styled updo can be the perfect choice. This stunning French Braid Pin-Up that enhances natural curls while keeping the look polished and elegant.
Prepare the Hair
Start by shampooing and conditioning the hair thoroughly.
Define the Curls
Create horizontal partings at the nape using a retractable sectioning pick, working with no more than one-inch subsections. Apply chosen curl product to the hair.
Using the Olivia Garden Single Bristle Brush designed for hair types 2A to 3A, brush from root to ends, ribboning the hair to define the curls. This tool smooths and enhances curl definition without causing frizz.
Continue this process until the entire head is completed.
To maintain curl definition, use low heat and avoid disturbing the curls until they are fully dry to prevent frizz.
Create the French Braid
Section the hair from ear to ear using a retractable sectioning pick, splitting it from front to back.
Starting at the nape, use three strands of hair to begin the French braid. Leave the ends of the braid open to showcase the curls.
Pro tip: Maintain even tension while braiding to ensure a polished look.
Style the Front Section
In the front section, create a French roll using the handle of your single bristle brush.
Slide your hands to the ends of the hair and, using the brush handle, roll the hair down towards the scalp or base.
Secure the roll with hairpins.
Once finished, gather the hair in the center, holding it in a high ponytail.
Wrap a bungee cord around it and use bobby pins and hairpins to secure the bun.
Final Touch
Use your favorite holding spray along with the retractable sectioning pick to smooth flyaways and polish the final look.

Define Your Curls

Apply desired curl product to each section and brush from root to tip in a ribboning motion to separate and define the curls.
For thicker, denser hair, work in smaller sections to ensure even product distribution.

Let the hair dry naturally, avoiding any touch until it’s fully dry. Alternatively, use the Olivia Garden SuperHP Professional Hair Dryer with the diffuser attachment for faster drying.
Once dry, you can leave the hair as is or use it as a base for more styled looks.

Using the handle of the brush, roll the hair down toward the base of the ponytail and secure it with hairpins.
Carefully slide the brush handle out of the French Roll and reinforce the style with bobby pins. Use the retractable sectioning pick for detailing and finishing touches.
Two-Strand Twists

Twist the strands over each other, working your way down to the ends.
Repeat this process for all sections.

Allow the hair to dry completely before styling or wearing it out. This will ensure the two-strand twists last longer and maintain their definition.
