Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, once said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” Inspired by these words, Aussie stylist Andrea de Deugd pushed herself to new creative heights by executing the Tenacity compilation from idea to completion in just three weeks, which proved to be quite an impressive feat. “I wanted my images to define attitude and emotion through shape, texture and mood,” says de Deugd.
The image featured demonstrates de Deugd’s contemporary take on the classic bob. To create this style, de Deugd sculpted the hair while dry to frame the face and keep the edges sharp to highlight her model’s features. She added Matrix Style Link Mineral Airy Builder underneath for control and volume, then used a wide-tooth comb to lift the hair out gently to forge the desired shape. As for the decision to shoot in black and white versus color? Enthuses de Deugd, “It looks timeless.”
