As far as fashion weeks go, some regions deliver the goods in a consistent manner. New York is known for its
Americana sportswear and slicked-back ponytails. Paris, for its couture detailing and sweeping chignons. Milan, for its blatant sex-bomb appeal and vamped-up bed heads. And Los Angeles, for its in-your-face creativity and sky-high Mohawks courtesy of hair guru Sean James.

The talented Los Angeles-based stylist divides his time by working in Santa Monica’s A-list salon Frank Studio and juggling a burgeoning roster of clients; crafting coifs for editorial spreads with the likes of camera maestros Annie Leibovitz and David LaChapelle; and, during the 2007 Fall Mercedes-Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week, leading the GHD (Good Hair Day) team through six hectic shows all in the name of haute runway hair. “I like to cover all aspects of hair,” he says breathlessly. “I love the excitement of runway.”

How does he do it all? He credits his agent Martin Meraz at Photogenics Media for keeping his travel, shoot, session and runway schedules from spiraling out of control. “Martin helps me structure my days so that I can fit everything in. Plus, he has a high tolerance level for my many phone calls every day!” he laughs.

James’ other savior? Frank Studio’s reliable staff, who accommodate his schedule and help organize his clientele. “I’m very blessed that I have so many understanding people,” he says.
