Girl on Film

I was lucky enough to be asked to talk about what makes super-stylist Oribe and his eponymous haircare line a beauty editor's dream for a brand awareness film the Oribe Hair Care company is making. If you aren't familiar with Oribe's background, let's put it this way: He had a major hand in putting the "super" on "supermodels" Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford. He, along with makeup artist Francois Nars and photographer Steven Meisel, changed the face of fashion and beauty photography, and the way the public perceives it. And rather than fade into the background (his career has spanned three decades and counting!), he's still as relevant as ever (check out his timeline of work at oribe.com), in no small part because of his experience, attention to detail and, as mega-editorial nail technician Elle relates, "His very humble attitude."

Other people who spoke on Oribe's behalf included Brad Johns (one of Oribe's protégés and color director for Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Spa in NYC) and the owners of the new Whittemore House salon, Larry Raspanti and Victoria Hunter (both former creative directors for Bumble & bumble), among many others. Though my spot in the film will probably be no longer than seven seconds, I asked one of the Oribe team members to film (via my handy Flilp!) the behind-the-scenes outtakes. I squeezed it together into this little film. Note the end: That was a quick shot of all the recent editorials Oribe has worked on...and, there were at least two other walls jampacked with images as well!
