Dermalogica Celebrates Girl Power Across the Globe

Recently, award winning professional skincare brand, Dermalogica, showed its support of empowering girls across the globe through education on the International Day of the Girl on October 11, 2013. The company's efforts to support young women focused mainly on its "Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship" program, or FITE, with extends educational opportunities and business micro-loans to women in the developing world. FITE also helps provide girls with the skills they need to achieve financial independence as adults by supporting education, vocational training and leadership programs.

Dermalogica Co-Founder, brand visionary and member of the Clinton Global Initiative, Jane Wurwand attended the annual meeting in New York City and added her signature to "The Girl Declaration," a document that challenged the United Nations to take action on behalf of over 250 million girls and women living in poverty throughout the world. The Girl Declaration, which is spearheaded by the United Nations Foundation and the Nike Foundation, was presented to the UN on October 11, calling for swift and substantial action.

In addition to its support of The Girl Declaration, Dermalogica honored International Day of the Girl by hosting a West Coast screening of the award-winning documentary, Girl Rising. This groundbreaking film, presented at Dermalogica global headquarters in Carson, California, tells the inspiring stories of nine young girls trying to pursue their dreams in the harsh realities of poverty. Dermalogica will be holding additional screenings of the film at their international offices around the world, and will follow the lead of participating cities by lighting the exterior of Dermalogica headquarters a brilliant pink as a symbol of female potential and empowerment.

Wurwand expressed her deep, personal commitment to the cause, stating that, "it is purely a circumstance of birth that I was, as a girl, able to pursue opportunities that are out of reach for so many girls around the world. I am personally committed that all girls are heard, and given a hang up to truly reach their own potential."
