NYFW Hairstyles How To: Adam Selman S/S 2014

For his premiere collection, designer Adam Selman was dually inspired by the 1978 film Eyes of Laura Mars and urban street wear. Key hairstylist Holli Smith for Oribe Hair Care looked to vintage magazine covers for styles that would complement Selman’s designs. "We used the '70s as reference for this beautiful Cosmo hair," said Holli, who created three different looks for the show. Two of the styles had elements of volume in the front and texture throughout the ends, while the other was a sleek side bun with wisps in the front to add some softness. The entire look was completed with '80s inspired makeup of bright eye shadows and pink cheeks created by Aaron de Mey using MAC with accompanying glossy red nails by nail artist Madeline Poole using Ciaté's boudoir polish.

Side bun:

1. Spray Maximista throughout hair, concentrating at the roots, and blow dry hair using a paddle brush. Sweep hair across the head to the right shoulder, smoothing the hair down with the brush as you go.

2. Use the paddle brush to gather hair at the nape of the neck into a low ponytail and secure with a bungee.

3. Twist ponytail into a bun and secure with bobby pins. Take fingers and gently rub along the hairline to pull out little wisps of hair. Finish with Superfine Strong. [pagebreak]

Volume with hair pushed back:

1. Start the look with straight hair. If your natural hair has texture, blow out first using a

paddle brush.

2. Spray Maximista at roots and blowdry hair, concentrating at the front and using your fingers to lift hair for more volume. Continue spraying front hairline with Maximista and diffusing with blowdryer, pulling the hair up and back until the desired look is achieved.

3. Spray lengths of hair with a mix of Dry and Maximista for texture.

4. Set front of hair with Superfine Strong. [pagebreak]
