Runway Report: Valentino and Alexander McQueen at Paris AW 2013

Redken Creative Consultant, Guido created two stunning styles at the Fall 2013 Valentino and Alexander McQueen shows in Paris.

Both shows were pure beauty, yet appealing for different reasons. The style at Alexander McQueen, complete with cage-like pearl-covered headpieces which Guido helped design, was take-your-breath-away inspiring, while the perfectly polished, pure-and-simple side braid at Valentino had a more attainable allure.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

look:
STEP 1: Apply Redken guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to dry hair from roots to ends and comb through until hair is completely saturated.

STEP 2: Divide hair into two sections (top and bottom, sectioning horizontally) in the back. Make three or four parts if hair is very thick.

STEP 3: Clip the bottom section down and out of the way, and then using a finishing brush, start to brush the top section flat against the head, following the round of the head in one direction. Repeat this with each section making sure it's very clean and neat-looking when finished.

STEP 4: Blow dry hair until completely dry. Apply Redken control addict 28 high hold hairspray and then place wig caps on so they completely cover the head.

STEP 5: Prep the wig by creating all-over pin curls, also first saturating the hair with guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam.  Each curl should be pinned flat against the head- to secure, 'x' each curl with two pins. Once dry and curls have set, take some pins out so they still lie flat but not all are visible.

STEP 6: Place headpiece on head.

VALENTINO

l of the brand itself.

I've done a side braid before, but it was always sexier, like at Alexander Wang a few years ago - this one is more minimal, but there's a certain level of seduction in the innocence," -Guido.

Created the look:

STEP 1: Apply Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow dry lotion to damp hair from roots to ends and blow-dry straight with a boar bristle brush.

STEP 2: Create a clean center part, and then use a fine tooth comb to brush hair to one side (the side that the braid will fall on- in the show it was the models' left) from the back (so center part stays intact).

STEP 3: Tuck the side of the hair you will braid behind the ear and then rub a small amount of satinwear 02 into your hands to help you as you start to braid, beginning a few inches down from the neck, keeping your wrists and
elbows low as you go.

STEP 4: Create a braid that's smooth but not too tight, and secure with an elastic at the tip, leaving only an inch or two unbraided at the end.

STEP 5: Put a few drops of [new] Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine
on your hands, rub together to emulsify, and lightly run your hands over the hair on either side.

STEP 6: Slide the leather band over the head so that it rests 2-3 inches
back from the forehead and covers the front of the ears.

STEP 7: Mist with Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray to finish.
