Murad Family Foundation Teams up with Beach City Baseball Academy to Offer Lessons for Special Needs Children

The Murad Family Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to advancing the health of Southern California’s children by expanding access to fitness and nutrition education, announced that they have formed a partnership with Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) in El Segundo, CA with the purpose of providing free baseball lessons to children of all ages with special needs.

This joint community service program is open to the public and consists of a free series of one-on-one 30-minute batting sessions to any child with a special need in the community. The goal of these sessions is not only to teach the child how to hit a baseball, using focused repetition on the baseball T and coach pitch techniques, but also to build confidence and have fun.

“The Murad Family Foundation is extremely excited about this partnership,” said Hilarie Murad, Foundation President. “Physical activity has been continuously proven to help children with special needs build confidence, improve motor skills and increase their overall sense of self. The BCBA program is perfectly aligned with the Foundation’s philosophy and we are proud to offer our support.”

In a pilot test for this program, the members of the BCBA staff experienced great success with the special one-on-one approach they have developed to coach children living with the challenges of autism and other special needs. Taught by experienced professional coaches, the program provides no less than two free sessions per month for each child on a regular basis. Bats and helmets are provided by BCBA for the children’s use at no extra charge.

“Beach City Baseball Academy recognizes that children living with the challenges of autism and other special needs often have difficulties learning the basic skills needed to play baseball,” said Richard Murad, owner of Beach City Baseball Academy and Treasurer for the Murad Family Foundation. “We have found that the confidence gained from mastering this skill can unlock the entire world of sports for a child. The 25 children who are currently in the program have flourished through increased physical activity and self-confidence – we’ve seen it but more importantly we’ve heard it from numerous parents. Through this program, we hope to be able to offer this experience to every child in the community, who otherwise may not be able participate in traditional sports.”
