We are spotlighting the winners of Beauty Launchpad's 30 Under 30 contest, sponsored by Denman Professional.
Here, you'll get to know Taylor Paschal (@taylorpaschalcosmo), a 25-year-old color specialist based out of Moef Salon in Glendale, CA.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Taylor Paschal (TP): I love raving and have been to 100+ festivals. I also have two pitbulls I love more than life itself.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
TP: I always knew I wanted to do hair from a young age. I used to ditch school to do my friends' hair (sorry mom). I started cosmetology school as soon as I got my diploma.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
TP: Gina Atkinson. I started working with Gina nearly three years ago. Having someone so experienced in the industry — who has accomplished everything I've always aspired to — has been an invaluable resource I'm truly grateful for.
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
TP: My proudest achievement has been creating a client base with my TikTok (@TaylorPaschalCosmo). On a platform where short-form rules, I wasn’t afraid to show a lengthier consultation process, which has brought the clientele I value most into my chair on a daily basis.
BLP: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve been given by a fellow industry/hair pro?
TP: Not everyone will like you, and that’s perfectly fine. What truly sets you apart is focusing on yourself and creating a brand that’s uniquely yours.
BLP: What is a hair tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful behind the chair?
TP: Make sure you master the art of a flawless blowout. A sleek, polished finish is what will have your guests saying, “Why doesn’t my hair look like that when I do it?” It gives them even more of a reason to return to your chair.
BLP: What is your favorite hair trend currently?
TP: Don't hate me, but Calico hair or any chunky highlight. The contrast of colors tickles my brain in the best way!
BLP: Who or what inspires your work?
TP: Julie Kleine (@colorswithchemistry) is a major inspiration for my educational work, and @empalmm’s avant-garde vivid creations always leave me speechless. I admire anyone who is truly pushing the boundaries of what “the norm” of education and our work behind the chair looks like!
BLP: What changes would you like to see in the industry to better help hair pros grow and thrive?
TP: HEALTH INSURANCE — PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
TP: I dream of creating my own independent education platform that offers a comprehensive color theory program, enabling fellow stylists to apply their knowledge to any color line or client they work with.
