We are spotlighting the winners of Beauty Launchpad's 30 Under 30 contest, sponsored by Denman Professional.
Here, you'll get to know Hanna Gohn (@hannashairchair), a 27-year-old hairstylist and salon owner based out of Glaze Beauty Studio in Citrus Heights, CA.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Hanna Gohn (HG): I have two pugs and want at least one more.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
HG: I started in a different part of the industry as a makeup artist and had a major love for doing bridal makeup and lashes.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
HG: I have had many people I really look up to in the industry. A few I always draw inspiration from are Kimberly Ibbotson (@kimberlytayhair) and Lisa Giles (@lifeoflisag).
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
HG: Becoming a salon owner has been the biggest accomplishment and challenge so far in my career, but also the most rewarding.
BLP: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve been given by a fellow industry/hair pro?
HG: Never stop learning. Take as many classes as you can, and some of the best classes are free.
BLP: What is a hair tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful behind the chair?
HG: Keep your sections as clean as possible. Having pre-sectioned, clean sections cuts down on time so much when doing a complicated vivid service.
BLP: What is your favorite hair trend currently?
HG: I am obsessed with the Calico and Neapolitan hair right now. It’s been so fun to see and play with all the different placements and color combos.
BLP: Who or what inspires your work?
HG: Everything! I love drawing inspiration from everyday things around me. For example, I just did a client whose Inspo was an ice cream cone with a cherry on top. As far as other artists, I am inspired every day by Meg Hardee (@mermeghair) and Emmett Palmer (@empalmm). They are creating some of the coolest work.
BLP: What changes would you like to see in the industry to better help hair pros grow and thrive?
HG: I want to see a better path for new stylists coming into the industry by introducing educational assistant or co-stylist programs, as well as more inclusive salons in general.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
HG: My next career goal is to start traveling and teaching at salons around the country. Educating has been so much fun for me, and this next year, I want to expand outside of my local area.
