Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Dani Soderholm (DS): I recently got certified in scuba diving!
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
DS: I finished high school at 16 and went to cosmetology school right away. After graduating, I was hired at a small local salon and worked on growing my clientele. Two years later, I switched to renting my chair and moved to a larger rental salon. I spent the next two years there before opening my single chair private salon.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
DS: I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many talented educators and influencers in this industry, but an individual that has always stuck out to me is Sam Villa.
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
DS: I did color work on a former Bachelorette, and People magazine published an article about it.
BLP: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve been given by a fellow industry/hair pro?
DS: Under promise and over deliver - always!
BLP: What is a hair tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful behind the chair?
DS: Learning how to break the rules and push limits with formulating has given me an upper hand with creating customized gorgeous colors.
BLP: What is your favorite hair trend currently?
DS: Babylighting mixed with balayage for lived in looks — also great for subtle gray blending!
BLP: Who or what inspires your work?
DS: My child self. I’m doing what I’ve always dreamed of doing, and I know little me would be beaming to see where we’ve gotten.
BLP: What changes would you like to see in the industry to better help hair pros grow and thrive?
DS: Healthier salon environments/leadership.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
DS: To always strive for growth in my business in a way that enhances both my work and personal life. Whether that means expanding in the future or continuing to evolve in my private salon, I haven’t set any limitations!
