We are spotlighting the winners of Beauty Launchpad's 30 Under 30 contest, sponsored by Denman Professional.
Here, you will get to know Chloe Hartnett (@curls.by.chloe), a 24-year-old hairstylist and curl specialist based out of Adored Salon in Lombard, IL.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Chloe Hartnett (CH): As a little girl, I would ask for mannequin heads for Christmas to practice my braiding skills. My whole family hated them and thought they were so creepy.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
CH: I got my start in the industry by finding a niche not many stylists wanted to go into. Then, I got as much training as possible and began working in a curly salon.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
CH: My boss Jennifer Janisch has been a major inspiration throughout the last five years. She has pushed me to do things that I never even considered doing.
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
CH: My proudest achievements are being a curly extension educator with Adored Signature Hair and traveling the country to share curly extension education.
BLP: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve been given by a fellow industry/hair pro?
CH: On one of the first days of beauty school, I was told “Get comfortable being uncomfortable,” and that has stuck with me to this day. Now, if something gives me anxiety, I know it is going to be worth it in the end.
BLP: What is a hair tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful behind the chair?
CH: A technique I've learned that's made me more efficient behind the chair is not assuming every person wants to leave with a blowout. Many individuals with textured hair want to leave the salon with their natural curls. A curl set will take a lot less time plus last longer than a blowout if done correctly.
BLP: What is your favorite hair trend currently?
CH: My favorite hair trend currently is curly bangs! They are so cute!
BLP: Who or what inspires your work?
CH: My clients inspire my work. Curly clients are some of the most grateful people I have ever met. Every time someone leaves my chair and says “no one has ever known how to cut my hair until you,” it makes me want to do it all again.
BLP: What changes would you like to see in the industry to better help hair pros grow and thrive?
CH: I would love to see more natural waves and curls in mainstream media. So many individuals are having to mask their texture due to industry standards.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
CH: A career goal and dream I have for myself is to do hair for celebrities and educate as many people as possible in textured hair.
