Scrolling through Kelly Martin’s Instagram will show that she is responsible for creating some seriously vibrant hair color creations at The Warren Salon in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Another thing it will tell you? This girl’s got style.

Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What three words would you use to describe your personal style?

Kelly Martin (KM): The three words I would use to describe my personal style would be “retro,” “vibrant” and “edgy.”

BLP: How has your style changed over the years?

KM: Since I’m buying butterfly clips again, I would say it’s currently come full circle. I lived through the ’90s and I’m fully embracing its resurgence! However, I’m happy to leave the fashion choices I made between then and now in the past; the 2000s were not the decade for fashion.

BLP: Is there an article of clothing/piece of jewelry that holds a lot of meaning for you?

KM: My grandmother’s engagement ring–for the obvious reasons, but also because she was a hairstylist, too. She and I were very close until she passed, and her ring is our only family heirloom. I put it on a chain and wear it as a necklace.

BLP: What is the best piece of fashion/beauty advice you have ever received?

KM: Do whatever makes you happy. I know this probably sounds simple and cliché, but being in this industry you encounter so many people that do things for their personal appearance to appease others–whether it be a significant other, a parent, employer, etc. I love to see people embracing change for themselves, and finding their own self-worth and learning how to express who they are through a hair cut or hair color.

BLP: Who is your style icon?

KM: At the moment, my style icon is Harry Styles. I just love everything about him, but his style is so dope. Ideally, we’d make out, share a wardrobe, tell a few jokes, and indulge in a cheese plate. I’ve said too much.
