This Earth Month 2018, Aveda is inviting its artists, partners and guests to take the Aveda Earth Month pledge to support the brand’s clean water mission. By taking part in a variety of earth-conscious actions through the pledge, from skipping hair washes and going dry to save water, to purchasing Aveda’s Light the Way Candle to benefit clean water projects around the globe, participants in Earth Month will help to continue Aveda’s tradition of environmental and clean water efforts.
Since 1999, thanks to the efforts of the Aveda Network and its guests, Aveda has raised more than $56 million to fund hundreds of local and global environmental organizations. Since 2007, the brand has helped more than 1.1 million people gain access to clean drinking water.*
This year, Aveda strives to once again raise millions during the annual month of fundraising activities dedicated to protecting water. “Part of what makes Earth Month so special is that the funds we’ve raised since campaign launch have come from millions of individual actions and donations. We have the collective power to change the world one artist and one guest at a time,” said Melissa Chelminiak, Aveda Director Mission, Partner and Stakeholder Engagement.
There are many ways to take part in Aveda’s 2018 Earth Month initiatives - from donating time or money to raising awareness about clean water through social media.
For the 12th consecutive year, Aveda has created a signature limited-edition Light the Way Candle benefiting clean water and will donate 100% of the purchase price to Global Greengrants Fund, a nonprofit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve environmental problems all around the world. Those donations will go to clean water projects. Since 2007, Aveda has raised more than $14.7 million through Light the Way Candle sales.
This year, the candle has a new grounding aroma featuring certified organic vetiver from Haiti, patchouli, oregano, marjoram and cedarwood. Light the Way Candles are available for $14 now.
In addition, thousands of Aveda Artists around the world will donate their time and talent to clean water causes this April by offering Appointments For Clean Water. Participating salons will donate a portion of the proceeds from select beauty services all month long to local nonprofit organizations that support clean water projects within the community.
This year, Aveda guests will have a new way to support Aveda’s local Earth Month partners, by “Going Blue for Earth Month.” Select Aveda salons will offer limited-time-only services as part of their Appointments For Clean Water offerings including the Earth Month Blue hair color service, designed by Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Color, Ian Michael Black, and a Modern Mermaid makeup finishing touch, designed by Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup, Janell Geason, especially for Earth Month 2018. Aveda Artists and guests will be encouraged to share their looks on social media to further raise awareness of the Aveda Clean Water campaign.
Keep in mind that skipping a wash day can make a real difference. In the U.S., cutting just 3 minutes from your usual shower time can save approximately 6 gallons of water. If you shower daily, you could save 2,190 gallons of water a year!
Aveda’s Shampure Dry Shampoo and Thermal Dry Conditioner make skipping a wash easier than ever. The dry shampoo absorbs oils at the root while the thermal dry conditioner instantly conditions, detangles and softens hair. Both feature Aveda’s signature calming Shampure aroma.
