The Backstory
Vinny’s Barbershop has been a staple of the community for seven years now. Vinny grew up around a barbershop in Freeport, TX, and that same feeling of being accepted in a man’s world, the aroma of talc powder, the deep tone of conversations and outbursts of laughs is what he still has a passion for today. Over the years, the shop has become more than just a place to get a haircut— it’s an experience. Endless amounts of friendships/relationships have been created at Vinny’s. It’s a hub of local gossip, advice and camaraderie. Vinny takes pride in continuing his legacy and providing top-notch service to his loyal customers and the community.
The Look
The barbershop I designed embodies a modern industrial while staying true to the classic barbershop aesthetic. I drew inspiration from urban loft spaces, incorporating exposed copper pipe, sleek metal fixtures and reclaimed wood accents. The overall vibe is edgy yet inviting, with a mix of vintage and contemporary elements. The goal was to create a space where clients feel comfortable while also capturing the essence of timeless style.

At my barbershop, we offer a range of services tailored to meet our clients’ grooming needs. This includes classic haircuts, beard trims, straight razor shaves and grooming consultations. Additionally, we provide services such as facial treatments, scalp massages and eyebrow grooming to enhance the overall experience.
One of our signature services is the “VIP EXPERIENCE,” which includes a precision haircut, hot towel facial treatment and relaxing scalp massage. We also offer exclusive grooming packages for special occasions, such as weddings or milestone celebrations, which include personalized styling and pampering sessions.

What was your first job in the industry?
I was a barber/glorified shop sweeper. My first year I cut nothing but kids (adults would not trust me ). I eventually built the trust of the kids and fathers and started cutting adults.
What inspires you?
My family, my employees and my community.
What was the most challenging thing that happened while opening your barbershop?
One of the most challenging aspects of opening our barbershop was navigating the process of securing the right location. Finding a space that not only met our aesthetic and functional requirements but also aligned with our budget and zoning regulations posed significant hurdles.
Additionally, coordinating the various aspects of the build-out, including construction, interior design and obtaining necessary permits, required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure everything came together smoothly and on schedule.
Despite these challenges, overcoming them ultimately reinforced our team's resilience and determination to create a space that reflects our vision and values.
What piece of advice would you give to a new barbershop owner?
One piece of advice I would give to a new barbershop owner is to prioritize building strong relationships with both clients and employees.
For clients, focus on delivering exceptional service, creating a welcoming atmosphere and consistently exceeding their expectations. Building trust and loyalty with your clientele will not only drive repeat business but also generate positive word-of-mouth referrals, which are invaluable for growing your customer base.
For employees, invest in their training, provide opportunities for professional growth and foster a supportive and collaborative work environment.
