Runway Report: December, 2009Superstylist Ted Gibson and L’Oréal Professionnel titillate at Carlos Campos.

Designer: Carlos Campos

Products: L’Oréal Professionnel

The dandy lads and randy ladies at designer Carlos Campos’ fall/winter show mix business with pleasure. Their wares merge edgy details and finishes with tailored, classic silhouettes; their hairstyles blend sleek with fussed-and-mussed casual. This latter detail comes courtesy of celebrity stylist Ted Gibson, who, with L’Oréal Professionnel, is infusing sexified structure into the strands of Campos’ hot, young commodities.

For the men, a high-sheen finish and deep side part bring to mind a modern-day Clark Gable. “Today’s stylish man has overlays of short and long hair,” notes Gibson. “To complement these contrasting lengths, I’m using HOMME Strong Hold Gel for the longer pieces that need control, and for the shorter areas, HOMME Sculpte Fibre Paste, which provides hold while adding modern texture.”

With the ladies, Campos says he wants “the hair to reflect a sleek, put-together style, yet look like it’s left over from the night before.” Gibson achieves this by first prepping the hair with volume-inducing Texture Expert Expansion Body Activating Mousse, and then mixing eras with a ’40s pompadour, ’50s crown of sky-high height, and a ’90s deconstructed curl in the back. Teased height and slicked sides receive their steadfast structure from Infinium 4 spray, while the unraveling curls are set and finished with Texture Expert Perfect Shimmer from the Rêverie/Realité collection. “The hairstyles Ted came up with definitely make the collection’s silhouettes bolder and cohesive on the runway,” notes Campos. —Karie L.
