Joico International Vero K-PAK Color Spokesperson Beth Minardi predicts a “Marilyn”-inspired return to glamour.
The luminous, pastel blonde shade and sexy, spooled curls sported by actress Michelle Williams for her portrayal of screen legend Marilyn Monroe will inspire a glamorous, retro-Hollywood trend, declares Joico International Vero K-PAK Color Spokesperson Beth Minardi. “After several seasons of warm tones and gradated effects like ombré, the pale, consistent, buttery tone that we saw in My Week With Marilyn is the newest direction for blondes,” Minardi declares. “It makes an incredibly glamorous statement, just in time for the upcoming ‘awards’ season in Hollywood.”
Classic looks call for classic techniques, and according to Minardi, Williams’ bombshell blonde hue is best achieved with a double process blonding method. “There are no shortcuts for this type of blonde,” she explains. “A professional salon colorist must pre-lighten the hair and then apply the correct toner, while treating strands with the proper care and conditioning formulas throughout the process.”
To get the look, Minardi suggests pre-lightening strands to a pale yellow stage using Joico’s VeroLift Crème Lightener, a moisture- and emollient-rich formula featuring Cationic Triamine Complex that protects and conditions strands. Next, dry the hair and apply Minardi Luxury Color Care Pre-Wash Therapy, a therapeutic cream-oil emulsion that fortifies hair with strengthening proteins and delivers intense hydration as it boosts pliability. Rinse, shampoo and condition with Minardi Luxury Color Care Wash and After Wash No. 3, formulated for hair treated with lighteners or high lift shades. Finally, tone all strands with Joico Vero Chrome Demi-Permanent Crème Haircolor V9 Platinum + Clear and process for 8-10 minutes.
Tousled, sexy, loopy curls provide the perfect pairing for this screen siren shade of blonde. According to Joico International Creative Director Damien Carney, Joico Body Luxe Design Foam provides the ideal combination of crisp definition and touchability. He recommends applying an egg-sized dollop of the foam to damp hair and blow drying with minimal tension, encouraging maximum volume and body at the roots. Then subdivide the hair and create large curls with a one-inch curling iron. Clip each curl in place. When the hair cools, remove the clips and gently lift the hair at the base, and arrange the curls with your fingers, leaving them intact. Mist with Joico K-PAK Protective Hairspray for touchable hold.
Return to glamour with this Marilyn-inspired color and style and help clients make their own award-winning style statements!
