Regardless of what your working environment looks like as a hair professional, one of the most important assets you can have in this industry is community — fellow hairstylists who can offer advice, support your initiatives and be a resource to turn to in a time of need. They are people who understand and likely share in your unique day-to-day struggles in the industry. They also have their own connections who can be of value in growing your platform and branching out if you have ambitions beyond the chair.
No hairstylist can survive without a proper community behind them; however, in recent years, it's become more difficult to feel a sense of belonging. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated feelings of loneliness and offered limited opportunities for in-person connection. Just as the industry is starting to recover from the isolation it caused, many professionals may be taking time to re-evaluate their relationships, as they seek out individuals they know they can trust.
Community is not always easy to find in times like this, but it's important to seek out nonetheless. So, Beauty Launchpad reached out to its followers and readers to ask where they mainly find community in the hair industry: through social media, trade shows/events or local salons/nearby businesses.
