Sam Villa, Founding Partner of Sam Villa and Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, is a Mentor Judge for the final competition of the epic 2014 Battle of the Strands (BOTS) in Las Vegas, October 4th - 6th. The event will LiveStream in movie theaters on October 6th and a TV version called “Global Beauty Masters” in part filmed at Sam Villa’s HairShow and air as a four episode series on Discovery Health and Fitness starting in December.
"This competition is so exciting because it not only highlights multiple countries and their talent, but it also has the added value of a strong educational component which is near and dear to me,” says Villa.
What will Villa bring to the judging? A unique blend of technical and artistic skills, and a contagious spirit! Villa is motivating, creative, passionate, energetic and inspiring. He started out shining shoes and sweeping floors in his father’s barbershop and grew to earn the title of “Favorite Platform Artist and Educator” at the prestigious Stylist Choice Awards in 2012, 2011 and 2007. He has more than 30 years teaching experience and is in constant demand at international and domestic trade shows and in-salon programs. He is also a lead facilitator at the Redken Exchange in New York City where he teaches a variety of design and trend sessions to salon professionals from around the world and is part of the team that trains the entire Redken Artist Network worldwide. He is co-founder of his namesake education and tool company, www.samvilla.com, recently launched a consumer-oriented website and in 2014, Sam Villa’s HairShow Blowout Bar opened at LOOK Style Society at Town Square Las Vegas. He’s been behind the chair, on stage, in salons and around the world - he is the hairdresser’s hairdresser.
What’s in it for the winners? Tickets to each of the four members to a class at the Redken Exchange facilitated by the mentor himself, Sam Villa. Upon arrival for the class, each winner will also receive a brand new set of Sam Villa tools.

In addition, the TV series of BOTS will air every Tuesday and Saturday from December 2 onwards on Discovery Health and Fitness in 51 million homes. In each episode, a beauty code will be revealed that takes viewers to listed salons offering special promotions and discounts. The participating salons will be promoted as Global Beauty Masters Featured Salons in each episode and other media channels.
