NYFW Get the Look: Backstage with China Glaze at DEGEN and Michael Costello

It was a trippy, Technicolor dream at the DEGEN presentation during Spring 2015 Mercedes’ Benz New York Fashion Week. China Glaze Nail Lacquer nailed the look as models showcased their psychedelically swirled manicures in shades hand-selected by the designer Lindsay Degen and her beauty team to complement her fun and funky creations. Models took the stage at the DEGEN presentation, rocking custom-made China Glaze water-marbled nails, applied by celebrity manicurist Casey Herman and team. Herman created different color combinations for the water marble effect using a mix of new and core China Glaze shades including Pop the Trunk, a hot orange crème from China Glaze’s upcoming Spring 2015 collection, as well as Sun of a Peach, a popping peachy crème; Are You Jelly?, a vivacious purple jelly; I Sea the Point, a bright neon blue crème; yellow crème Sun Upon My Skin; bright blue crème At Vase Value; White on White, a bright white crème; and Sky-High Top, a turquoise shimmer. Herman describes the inspiration:

To create the look, Herman started with a foundation of either White on White or Sun Upon My Skin dropped in a cup of water, then randomly placed two drops of three bright accent shades around the base color. Using a SuperNail Orangewood Stick, she drew a couple lines through the colors to gently swirl them while still maintaining a bold wash of each. Nails were dipped into the water as vertically as possible to avoid creating bubbles, and then removed from the water. Once nails were dry, Herman finished with the award-winning Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

China Glaze also partnered with designer Michael Costello to create a glamorous gold manicure that gorgeously complimented the luxe and intricate designs of his collection.

Designer Michael Costello chose a shimmering gradient design for his NYFW show which took place on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Costello worked with lead manicurist Casey Herman to create a custom gilded nude nail by applying one coat of China Glaze Don’t Honk Your Thorn, a creamy nude shade, topped with a coat of Heaven, a neutral shimmer. The soft nude nails were finished with a gorgeous gradient from the base of the nail using Mingle with Kringle, a fierce gold with an aluminum-like mirror finish.
