Mary-Louise Parker Supports Aveda Earth Month in NYC

Since 1999, Aveda has raised over $32 million to help support organizations that directly affect environmental change through the brand's Earth Month initiative. This year, actress Mary-Louise Parker showed her support for the Aveda Earth Month 2014 clean water efforts by visiting the Aveda Institute on Spring Street in New York City. She spent some time in the Institute looking at the Catwalk for Water "trashion" dresses - a collection of gowns created from recycled material by Aveda stylists around the world. Parker also purchased an Earth Month Light the Way Candle, of which 100% of the profits go to Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve pressing environmental issues.

“It’s been amazing to see Aveda’s Earth Month fundraising initiatives, especially the Catwalk for Water “trashion” dresses," commented Parker. "I try to teach my kids the importance of recycling. I turn old things like old hotel room keys and stuff lying around into games for them. Aveda’s Earth Month efforts perfectly align with my personal mission to help create a cleaner, safer world.”

Last year Aveda’s Earth Month efforts raised a total of $5.5 million for Clean Water and set a Guinness World Record for the Most Money Raised for Charity Through Haircuts in a 24 Hour Period during their Global Cut-A-Thon. This year, Aveda hopes to up the Earth Month ante to $6 million.

Light the Way Candles: $12
As part of their Earth Month  efforts, Aveda donates 100% of the purchase price (based on its SRP $12) of their signature, limited-edition Light the Way Candles to Global Greengrants Fund. In addition, the images on this year’s Light the Way Candle carton were drawn by children living in the Umbari India village who benefited from a grant supported by Aveda and Global Greengrants Fund to AWARD (Action for Women in Rural Development) to improve the local water system. The illustrations express the joy that having easy access to clean water has brought to their lives: clean water for people, plants and animals. Available for purchase at www.aveda.com.
