Bold lips and mussed hair vie for beauty best at Richard Chai Love Spring/Summer 2012 runway show. Avon global stylist Tippi Shorter, using Avon Advance Techniques 3D Rescue, explains the hairstyle, a duo-textured low ponytail that’s pulled together like a seeming afterthought: “The look very much reflects Richard’s inspiration for his collection with a loose, light and disheveled look on top and then straight and smooth on the bottom. It’s really ‘Day Two hair.’ The best way to get this look is by not having freshly washed hair, but hair that’s a little lived-in, that’s straight or wavy hair,” she says, before adding, “but the look doesn’t lend itself to curly hair.”

By contrast, the makeup—namely, the lips—look very thought-out: A few girls sport opaque and punchy, neon-bright lip colors (even blue!) that MAC lead makeup artist James Kaliardos cites as a good way to boost your mood if you’re feeling down. To create a precise shape and push in the color, he uses a lip brush and painstakenly applies MAC Pro Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan for the Day-Glo blue lips and MAC Pro Amplified Lipstick in Violetta for the purple puckers. —Karie L.
